You can not ask for fees to be paid by the buyer. Fees are a cost of doing business. To get exactly $50, search for paypal fee calculator in a search engine, and ask for the amount that would give you $50 after fees. Buyers will not pay for fees. -
Once I have already built a friendship with somebody and they request money as a gift for friends and family, if i feel comfortable doing that i will. Expecting strangers to send you money with no protection is a bit silly, protection means they will get a full refund unless the item is delivered. It also covers them if what shows up is not what was agreed upon.Comment

It literally puts all the power in the hands of the buyer. I sold a gun once and the guy was just being petty over some o-rings. I was completely blocked from getting the money and he had the marker. If he wasn't an idiot admitting he took the marker apart, no longer making it my responsibility i had no leg to stand on. I ended up buying him a new parts kit for 15$ and that was all he got, he wanted much more refunded. So even be careful who you sell to, the protection is great but it can be abused.
