Air pushes on both sides of a teeny tiny piston. More air pushes forward than back, so it stays closed. When you energize the solenoid it lifts a seal to open a leak in the back, so the bias changes; now there's more pressing back so it opens, until the solenoid closes, seals the leak and restores balance to the universe.
Because all the actions happen directly on the valve - no ram, no hammer, no sear - and the valve is tiny and practically weightless, they're super quick to respond. Because it's a nearly balanced poppet, they're quite particular about pressures and chamber volume. Because the blue first gen are aluminum instead of brass, you need to carefully check for burrs from manufacturing.
The last thing is that they LOVE to twist in the lower tube during install, shearing the wires right off. If I ever bought another (unlikely as I don't shoot cockers or snipers anymore) I'd drill and tap for a screw to act as a key in the hammer slot to protect the wires.
