WTB Electronic Hopper Around $50

I just bought an Emek and I was about to buy a PAL hopper, but I’d thought I’d see what sorta used electro hoppers might be out there for a little bit more. Probably around the $40-$50 range.

Rotors seem interesting (but obviously overkill for the rate of fire), and then anything else. It’s been awhile since I’ve played, but I remember that Halos are heavy, and Eggys are fragile. Then there is a long list of “newer” hoppers (as in newer than Halos) that I don’t even have enough information to judge.

There's also the Vlocity, and the Halo still exists in some form, and is dirt cheap now, but yes, it is heavy. Rotors are good. I'm not a dye fan but rotors work fine. There's also the modern revvy - The Protoyz Speedster. I think it's a great little hopper. Literally just a modern revvy.

I would say if you want cheap but good go for a revvy
And once you have the budget or find a good deal get a Rotor or Virtue

Halo are heavy, shell crack easily and battery hog and Egg are not better

Vmax+ is great. Great material, great (not completely ugly) form factor, no frills, easy access batteries.

Valken VSL is also an excellent option. In standard configuration its lower profile than a rotor or Revvy and lighter than the Rotor and Speedster. With the included expansion ring it is well over 200 68 cal pb. Added benefit is it's also 50 cal capable.

I would use a pal save for an Rotor LTR. It’s $99 new shipped the amount you save in battery’s in one year will make up the difference in cost of the older hopers like a halo, or velocity.

Revvy is a great option. They are cheap reliable and don’t eat battery like crazy. But those older powered hoppers destroy batteries like crazy. It will eat $50 worth in batteries with any kind of regular play.

I was hoping to find someone who had some old hoppers in their gear bag to sell, but this turned into an unexpected "Ask the Experts" thread!

Honestly, I don't think I'm going to get out play regularly at this stage in my life, so I'm not too worried about a hopper eating batteries. That being said, I'd rather have one that uses AAs instead of 9v. so that eliminates the Valken.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a used Rotor, LTR, or Spire IR. If I get impatient, I might just spring for the Protoyz Speedster, which has the added benefit of matching the Emek body nicely.

Use a Halo Too, or a Ricochet Apache. If I remember right, they are both sound activated.

I would not go sound activated on a Emek. (Maybe the stock barrel is loud enough to activate it.) But a lot of the older sound activated hoppers don’t work all that well with modern Mech they are a lot quieter. With an emek you want force fed the LTR is the best hopper you can get for them. It’s also cheap by today’s hopper prices. I would look for an used LTR or old rotor. You can find them used in your price range of $50.

Revvy would be my next best choice. $20-$40 used it’s not force fed but they feed very well at slower speeds. They do take two 9V and you are gunna want to do your research on what revvy to buy. (Don’t get the sound activated one) get the ones with upgraded paddles, break beam eyes, and updated boards especially if you get a see threw shell type. Also the ones with the Googly eyed logo are the most durable.

The Valken VSL is AA. The Protoyz Speedster is nice BUT big and heavy. They both use eyes.

You’re right. I think I was looking at the Valken Vmax when I saw the 9v.
I also saw how much lighter the VSL is when compared to the LTR, so I’m going to give it a go. Thanks for the correction.

I found a Valken VSL with a speed feed for $60 shipped. Thanks all the advice.
