Hmmm, now I understand why Mike made his own thread inserts. I've looked at everything in our [work] mechanical catalog for our design engineers and the only thing I can find in a close length (0.2 in) are from EZ-Lok and it is a helicoil style insert which is a PITA on something that small and shallow to install correctly.

Here is their link to kit and insert - 10-31 internal threads with a 0.19" length - https://www.ezlok.com/length_in/0.19...n/Metal?page=2

Ive thought of trying those, but at $4 each + shipping they're an expensive experiment for likely needing rework at best ...

PS: also thought of these, but they're even more expensive at $6 each ...

If you have a lathe you could also make them like Mike did so I guess that is why Mike just made his own.

True, and cheaper for sure ... But a lot more time consuming ...

I *may* need to make a run of them, if that happens, I'll make a few extra ... But they'll have a different outside thread if that matters ...

As long as they are the right size I would purchase some. External threading doesn't matter as long as it makes sense.

Mike made his because the thread is fine and the diameter is much smaller than the other stuff on the market. i have recently started using them instead of helicoils. They are significantly more expensive than helicoils but easier to install. I was going to inquire about purchasing a bunch more.

Yes, I think they give a better result overall.

They are pricier, but I use time-serts whenever possible. https://time-serts.com/

"The flange at the bottom is a no go. It will cause interference with frames or tails on autocockers.
For most of my applications a flush mount is required. Otherwise it looks like an excellent product"

The insert flange sits flush to the mating surface in a counterbore that is cut prior to installation. I've done multiple frame/beavertail holes without issue.

"I am curious to know what the tap thread pitch is."

ID and OD threads are synchronous, so for a 10-32 insert the OD is also 32 TPI.
