    3D printing Spyder threads...

I see 3D printed AC barrels, and they seem to be legit, so I am wondering if it is feasible to print a ~10" Freak XL barrel with Spyder threads.

And, if so.. can we move the threads up to about 2" from the tip, essentially leaving a ~8" shank on the breech end?

This will be for a PT Xtreme, and I can get you the exact measurements if this even sounds possible.

    Thanks in advance.

I was dicking off with my Xtreme and randomly threaded in my Spyder Flash barrel. The Spyder Flash barrel has a stupid plastic insert that is like 3" long, but I figured I would replace it with a Freak XL insert in the name of science.

The Flash/Freak XL combination is about 1/2" too short on the breech end... but it was close enough to give me the idea for this thread.

I can’t remember how I found out but when I had my 2 extremes I noticed the threads were spyder. But ya that shank though, lol.
I even had the only other barrel for one of them, the ported fluted tip one. Terrible huge bore. When the one worked leak free through 2 12 grams it got terrible efficiency and velocity. So this is actually a great idea.

I made a freak bore barrel for this one. The 12 gram seal crumbled and fell apart so i never got it shooting. If i remember correctly, the bolt enters the barrel. I cut a snub off the stock barrel to prevent the bolt from getting stuck and pulling the inser.

Kit, you are making all of the STBB fans wet with joy. Between the spyder horizontal ASA's and showing this off... What else do you have up your sleeve?

I don't think my reamer can bore to Xl lengths but i'll have to double check.

I am willing to "settle" for regular Freak inserts. Lol.

I've got a thread converter project I've been working on in fusion360. Mainly it's for my Tigershart project so I can use my plethora of Spyder barrels.

I took a Spyder threaded 0.685" LAPCO bore sizer, and force threaded it into my Tigershark... it now has metal barrel threads that take Spyder barrels, AND has a 0.685" bore. Two birds with one stone.

Plus, I can take off the barrel, and the bore sizer still enters the pump handle... so the pump handle isn't all floppy without a barrel in it.

My version of this modification involved red locktite and a pipe wrench... I chose the more permanent route. Burn the boats.

What about boring a Spyder barrel so that the freak insert makes up the rest of the barrel? I mean just partially boring the barrel so the insert only goes partway in.

Would be doable with the XL length.

That's the way it worked out when I was testing the idea with the Flash barrel. Only 2" of the Freak XL insert were in the barrel, the rest of the insert WAS the barrel.

It will need a 3D printed breech with an O-ring to secure the other end of the insert.

I've successfully 3d printed a 2" spyder barrel, now to shoot it.... :-D

It shouldn't be hard to make it larger, that's my next project. I just need to know exactly how long to make it, I have standard freak inserts.

The problem I'm having now is that the end of the barrel(inside the gun) part of a freaked spyder barrel is very thin. You wind up with around .5mm or .02in. so you only get 1 wall and it's very weak.

I think the bolt enters the breech, so you can leave like half an inch of breech before the Freak bore. If that helps get the Freak insert out from under the body at the breech end.

The body has room to spare around the barrel shank, its diameter can be increased some... obviously still has to fit through the front threads, though.
