My spump project that's slowly coming along

    The good:
So far I've slotted the hammer and modified the valve pin.

I got a nice metal single trigger frame for it, and a solid after market valve.

ICD lever changer, might use it for a stock, might have another plan for it.

    The bad:
The slice trilogy pump kit guide arm fit into the lpc's spot thread wise, but was far too long so I had to trim the threaded portion down by about 1/3, what I salvaged of the threads fit in fine, but is stuck and doesn't hold air.

Also the threaded portion of the pump handle snapped because of my own stupidity. So that's an issue to address.

    Current plan(s):
I'm going to force out the pump guide later, then try to jb weld or Teflon it back in place and see if it holds air. If it doesn't then it's time to hope that I can get my hands on a 12 gram adapter like what Kit made. If I can I'm going to use the icd changer in that spot as a pump guide for a handle I'll have to fabricate.

Speaking of making a pump handle. Like I said I ruined mine. My current plan using the pump guide I have to is make a wooden pump handle with an aluminum plate for the threads for the arm rods. I grabbed some rod I plan to tap, I'm thinking dual rod pump for stability. So my plan is to halfblock the Spyder, chop the bolt down a bit, and mount outward facing L brackets using the holes already through the bolt. The brackets will be threaded for the pump arms, and will need to be bolted on to the bolt after being threaded. The only issue I see here is I'll need to bend the pump arms as the bolt is about an inch above the middle of the body.

Eventually I plan to chop down the feedneck and tap it for a phantom feed.

Since I want to run it off 12 grams eventually efficiency will be the goal.

Freak barrel kit and a nice asa in black to match

Any thoughts, insights or past experience would be great

Thanks a bunch, I'm not quite sure how I'm going to make the pump handle without a lathe, but I'm sure with the creative minds on McB I'll find a great suggestion or two

3d printing could be an option for the pump handle
Or if you are good at wood carving I have seen couple handle made that way

No access to 3d printing or 3d printing skills, so it's looking like wood with an aluminum plate will be the answer.

I actually prefer a more square pump handle. Just get yourself a half round and maybe a rat tail rasp and some sandpaper and go to town.

I like that idea. I just got a 12 gram to lpc adapter from kit, so a larger blockish pump with a slot for the 12 gram to fall out is looking like the answer. Great call on the rasps, I don't do much wood-shaping or carving and didn't realize those exist.

I'm right there with you. I've been tinkering with mine for a while now, almost there. I used the slice kit too, I had to do at least 5 wraps with Teflon, and I added an oring on the end you can see it in this picture its a red oring.
Also good luck finding a Spyder Freak if you dont have one already. I mean the have brand new ones but I spent less on the marker itself.
I was lucky enough to find an adapter for my feedneck since it's vertical.
Bending the pump arm is a pain. I made mine work but it's hideous. The pump action is super smooth though.

I just snagged a 12 gram to lpc adapter from kit, so it looks like I'll be able to avoid that issue, just need to wrap my head around making the pump handle, and the bracket/back-block

You can probably pay someone here to 3d print you a block to attach the pump arms to the bolt. I have seen it done on a few Spump builds here.

So just got a 12 gram to lpc adapter from kit. I'm thinking I'm going to start with a 3x3x12 or so block chop it down to 2 6" pieces and get to shaping. I'm probably going to stick with a relatively round pump with a dropout slot for the 12ies and an aluminum plate for the threading. Going to use a rasp per another members suggestion to round out the space for the barrel on the top side.

Any other suggestions for wood-working to make a pump handle would be appreciated. I don't have access to a lathe, but my workplace has just about every handtool you can think of, plus some welding equipment etc etc.

If you want a unique/colored pump handle you can buy spectraply blanks in various sizes. Could also get matching grip blanks.

That's a real tempting idea. I'm probably going to start off with some cheaper wood just to get the design down. Down the road however, if I end up get the marker anodized then I'll definitely fabricate a spectraply pump for it.

Kits adapter fits perfect and even came with a kickass patch. I'm going to at least figure out the pump handle dimensions this weekend. Once I've made up the prototype I'll halfblock the body and remove the feedneck to tap if for a phantom sc adapter. I figure the final step will be creating the "back-block".

I'm loving the way this projects coming together, and absolutely couldn't get it done without all the help I've received from members of this forum, thanks everyone.

I just ordered a freak back and the stock in the attached photo. I'm hoping I can simplify the project by making it bolt action, using the stock's adapter plate as a backplate for the return spring, which will apply pressure directly to the bolt.

In the meantime, I need to find a bolt handle, does anyone have any sources, or am I best of searching for cabinet handles and the like?Click image for larger version Name:	Screenshot_20220116-200209.png Views:	0 Size:	255.0 KB ID:	217771

Well if you are still going to halfblock the body that will make things easier. Yes your best bet is probably to find a cool knob you like and making it fit to the bolt somehow, probably by drilling and tapping the bolt. There are also several machinists here that could make a custom knob if you want to pay for it.

For the sake of keeping things simple, I won't need to halfblock the body, but will need to cut the bolt down. If you look in the photos I posted above, you can see 3 holes in the bolt. I plan to cut it down to the first hole. From there I figure I can run a threaded bolt to a handle.

I was dumb for not googling before my last post, searching "spherical cabinet handle" beings us more than a few viable stainless steel options that are already threaded. At this point I just need to measure the holes in the bolt to find the right size bolt.

I'm also debating tapping the adapter on the stock for a guide rod for the return spring, but that's a whole different story. Trying to KISS

Ah OK I see it now. I didn't see that it had the window like my Imagine, so yes that makes things a ton easier. I will agree it's alot of work to halfback. Thats why I'm still not completely done with mine.

So I said screw it, this project is already way over budget for a pump Spyder, why not go nuts. So contacted Craig from Palmer's and confirmed their 11/16th low turbulence, mid pressure valve will both fit and handle unregulated co2 given that the epoxy job on my stock pin wasn't looking great, and this valve should be more consistent, I figured why not.

I'll be sure to update with photos once the new parts arrive. I'm experimenting with different threaded rod/fastener sizes to figure out how I'm going to set up the bolt. After that it's just finding the right handle and waiting for parts to arrive.

I'm very excited to give you all an update when all the parts have arrived.

I was just fiddling with mine, and ruined my epoxy job on the valve pin. At least it didn't happen at the field. I'm too stubborn to buy a new valve, so I'm going to try again

That's kind of how mine felt. I tried my best to scuff up the flat area on the pin, but the epoxy felt like it lost some of its grip after I sanded it down to size. I figured with all the time I've put into this project, I don't need to ruin the markers performance with a bad valve pin.

Just got the stock in yesterday. Still waiting on the valve and the freak back. I've got to cut the bolt down still, and then look into the proper set up for a cocking handle, I've found a screw that fits the question is if I want to tap the hold in the bolt for threads, or find a fastener with a small enough head to fit into the window on the body and hold snug to the bolt without any friction or rubbing.

I'm debating still building some kind of pump handle and 'back block' for it though, as the connection point is pretty far back on the marker towards my face for a bolt action marker. Just want to get to the testing and shooting phase first.

Also for one reason or another, the pin I had with the marker that holds in the internals is a bit too small, this is causing some wiggle in the stock, so I just put in an order for a better fitting one in black.

A pump handle will be tough with that lever changer right there. It's going to have to be chunky to fit over all of that. You would have to be realy creative if you want this thing to be a pump and have that lever changer where it is. Otherwise you're kind of stuck with a bolt action type. Who knows, someone with a 3d printer could possibly make a pump handle for you. Either way it's just going to cost more money.

Oh and most pins suck for Spyders. You might be better off drilling and tapping holes and screw the stock and body together. My MR 100 uses bolts that pass through the body and into the stock, but it's meant for the top tube.

Yea I've definitely struggled with finding the right shape for the pump handle. Gonna mess around with some scrap wood and see what I can come up with.

That's good to know about the pins as well, if the new one I ordered doesn't work than drill and tap it will be.

Freak back arrived today, just waiting on the valve to arrive and I'll get to testing for leaks and setting the springs up.

In terms of the bolt action vs pump debate, I'm thinking that making an attachment to bring the bolt forward just a few inches would make it more viable as pump marker, it's a question of what length I need to cut the bolt down to with the stock.

That being said I'm still working around with ideas in my head for a rectangular pump handle that wraps around both the barrel and the lever changer, with a slot for the 12 grams to pass through (picture an upside down "U". Just need to get a day on land at work where I can get at some of the better tools during my lunch break. Click image for larger version

I could probably cad up a thing for you that you can get printed by someone more local.
How about a top slide that connects to the bolt through its window and brings a bolt handle forward to somewhere behind the feedneck?
Bonus points if I'm allowed to put the NERF logo on it

That's such a generous offer. I genuinely know nothing about CAD or 3d printing, but if it's not asking too much, if my woodworking, welding, tapping and drilling fall short I will shoot you a message.

This projects a weird childhood dream of mine I get to bring together over a decade later, so part of this is doing it myself for the sake of learning and determination. That being said, this community has been a big part of inspiring me in its previous incarceration when I was younger and the sense of community helping each other reach goals has its own sentimental value to me if it helps me complete this project in a functional manner if I should fail to do so.

Also if you end up helping me you can put print anything you like on it, sky's the limit as long as it's kid appropriate
