    My first barrel re-threading

    Hello MCB,

Just wanted to share my first barrel re-threading.
It was a .50 cal Spyder threaded SETHZILLA! Sent me for a project ... Rethreaded for cocker.
now I need to do the second one 😅

Not double ... Not this one 😅
SETHZILLA! sent me 2 so I can make one for me and one for him.

Hi, and no single point here, I cut it to size on the lathe, then used the tailstock to line up the die ...

PS: working on a .50 cal conversion kit for cocker ...

I always thought I sucked on the lathe because I always had hell of a hard time doing anything on my Emco compact 5 CNC ... So I spent a lot of time reading everything I could learn hoping to figure it out ...
Now I have a more capable (and manual) lathe, i am realizing the limitation was more the lathe than me 😅
Not that I'm any good, but now I can kind of do what I want 🤣

        - stainless JT used as model - #2 re-threaded and thined down to fit on standard cocker body (the original spider barrel are about 20thou to big to fit on cocker 😜)
        - #1 just re-threaded

Well ... I did a PGP cocker threaded before (sold it years ago) and have a middle tube threaded for cocker. It just need to be cut and soldered to the rest of a sheridan ... and planning on doing some more at some point ...

I did this in teh 4 jaws with tail support (my thought bore is too small for a barrel) bu i was thinking between centers might be a good/reliable/easy way to keep everything aligned with the bore ...
Anyone work much between center anymore? Any advice, does and don'ts?

I usually end up working with a support. I hate changing out my chuck; the little nuts on 7" lathe chuck are very fiddly. It is also necessary if you lop the old end off and need to work on that end face.

I recommend that you practice single threading on an old cocker or automag barrel chunk, and/or some sch 40 PVC. You have to figure out what the best sequence is on your lathe and get used to it. Then you can make whatever threads you want. It's interesting to see how off-center/out-of-round some of the old barrels can be. It's also fun to make up some odd threads just to fit the scraps you might be trying to fit together.
