    Mech Proto SLG?

Anyone seen or done something like a mech SLG? I'm assuuming it would be similar or even easier than a mech Ion conversion. Should be easy in theory, right? They're a blow forward spool-like that's operated by a sear and clapper solenoid. Should be just a matter of getting a trigger geometry set up to trip the sear.

I will soon have 3 of these little bangers, might mess around with one of them and see if I can figure one out.

The problem is that you'd have to fabricate a whole sear tripping assembly like what you see in an Automag. It's technically possible, for sure, but I think SLGs are so cheap and not especially good shooters that nobody's bothered with it, especially when a mech Ion is cheaper and easier to build.

Fair enough, was just kind of thinking out loud. Still might mess around and see if I can get it to work.

I picked up a lot a while back and two SLGs were in with it. I've thought about trying this out too. They're pretty far down the list of things to do though.

Well, if you're ever looking to get rid of those, I'm slowly amassing a collection.

Thinking more on this, it's more complicated than I originally thought.
          - Unlike mag, the sear does not control air
          - Unlike an autococker, the sear is required to be engaged to stop the cycle
          - Unlike an Ion, there's no pneumatic solenoid to convert

If the sear is not engaged, the gun will just cycle in full auto at max rof. Really I should be looking at the STBB (spyder) trigger-sear mechanism.

Precisely what I was just about to point out: You need a linkage that will trip a loaded sear but will allow it to reset even if the trigger is still depressed, like you would find on any blowback.

I wonder if there might be some clever way of setting up a pneumatic piston that would trip the sear, but then vent and reset itself. Maybe something that acts like a tiny multi-way valve, where when pressurized it pushes upwards and trips the sear, but then continues in that direction another mm or so to open and vent, with a bias spring to return. Something like that, though, would require that the multi-way valve linked to the trigger both open the passage to the piston and cut off the piston from the constant LP supply at the same time, so that only a fixed volume of air would pass to the piston on each trigger cycle. Would probably be a pretty finicky thing to build.

The Automag: Not as clumsy or random as an electro. An elegant marker for a more civilised age.

There is a guy on the Dye CZR and Proto Rail Owners group on facebook that made one. He has a video of it shooting. Appears to work great.

Can't see without joining some group.

Pity, because I always wanted to see someone make a mechanical SLG.

It's a Proto Rail, not an SLG. Similar "conversion" to some other common ones where it's replacing the solenoid with a pneumatic valve actuated by the trigger.

                    Well that's disappointing.
I really wanted to see a mechanical SLG.

Its a owners group I created, totally safe. You really need to check it out.

Hey guys its me the guy with the mech proto rail ,no a mech proto slg as the op was asking but someone told me to show my marker here so theres the video link https://youtube.com/shorts/3qFWhPMTQsg?feature=share

                      Nice work
Can you show a better picture of the pneumatic connection?
I have a PMR like yours with a fried board/solenoid
Its in my project bin... one day will get there
was just wondering what size T fitting to use since the OEM hose are a lot bigger than the Smav3 barb can use

                    #12
Alexdl i think the pmr will not work with a custom manifold, last pmr i saw had a solenoid that wasn't conected with barbs or fittings , though there a guy here in a post that did a pmr manifold himself, now for the hoses i used 5/32 hoses from the air intanke to the "t" then to the back to the bolt and 1/16 hoses for the bottom of the t to the valve then 1/16 from the valve to the qev , putting the hoses on the original barb its a pain to do an even sometimes i even if yoy installed them correctly will leak so its very finicky in hindsight i should find some replacement barb fittings that a better suited , also the vakve im using is a customs valve thats is a 1:1 replacement of a smav3 though the smav 3 has some of the tiniest and weakest barb i have ever seen I tried to do this mod with a smav3 and the hoses popped every time from the smav , so my best guess is to use some hoses hats like old autococker 3 ways or something
