Apex2 adapters

Anyone here seen or designed a universal adapter for Apex2 tips?

I know PPS has something that slides onto a 13/16" od barrel but it's for the original Apex tip.

I'm looking for something that could be put on, say, a modified stock Ion barrel? In no way am I implying that I would use such an adapter to run dual Apex tips on a double barrel Ion... 🙂

But it would be pretty cool.

Action villiage has the J&J adapters, these two appear have set screws to mount them, but not sure difference between these?

See, I spent some time googling adapters but couldn't find any! I think I'll need a slightly different one than what you found (those are for the original Apex, not the Apex2) but they seem to have those, too.

I will likely look into getting some... but not in time for this season, though. Talk to you about it at Ultimate(?).

I have a couple of the j&j adapters. They will only work on straight profiled barrels. Like a pps, or j&j. You may have issues on the tapered type of barrel.

my only gripe with them, is the set screws cause a slight scratchy drag making rotating the apex kinda gritty. Compared to a smart parts apex ready tip, AA tip or a lapco apex ready tip, they feel ick. Granted, Its only an issue if you are fiddling with rotation angles a lot. Typically I use my apex tips on my double ion, so I set them and leave them as is.


There used to be a write up on a5og. Just use electrical tape to create an apex adapter to just about anything, and they worked pretty well.

McMaster-Carr Sells Teflon tipped grub screws I bet would alleviate that issue.

Its the hexed broached end that rubs on the apex itself that is gritty.

I could likely sand the set screws down to stop it, but they are already pretty short as it is.

I have multiple stock Ion barrels so I was planning on chopping a couple down to make dedicated Apex barrels... I figured cutting off the flared ported section would work to provide a straight piece of barrel for the adapters.

I've done the tape trick as well - that's how I'm running an Apex tip on my Hurc - but I want something a bit more permanent. Tape tends to break down after soaks in soapy hot water, which is how I usually clean things up after paintball outings.

Then the j&js should do the trick, but they are gritty.

You seem savvy enough, you think theres enough meat on a stock apex barrel to part the adapter bit off, then turn the ID of the apex barrel (adapter) to slide over the hurc barrel, and maybe turn the od of the ion barrels to match?

if you have a lathe, and the stock barrels laying around, Id think its the cheapest option, though it would take more time.

Maybe and no.

Apex barrels are 1"od... once you bore to the 13/16" id to slip over a stock Hurc barrel, there's not much meat for retaining screws, so you'd probably want a very close fit, almost interference fit tight. I want to be able to swap between barrels as necessary.

Ion barrels don't have a long enough straight 1"od section at the end, and I don't want to cut the barrels into 6" shorties, I want at least 10" barrels to help with velocity and avoid having to crank the input pressure up.

And with no access to a lathe it's a just a fun mental exercise. If my current living situation becomes permanent I'm going to look into at least a mini lathe for such projects.

If the local shop that lists them DOES have them, I can get them for what Actionvillage would charge me for shipping. I'm going to try to avoid US sources if I can help it ATM, USPS is increasingly unreliable with their shipping times as of late.
