I'm well familiar with Battletech since the 1980s. It's a genre and IP near and dear to my heart.
I started out playing the table-top version of the game on Saturday mornings with a group of regulars at the local comic book shop around the corner when I was kid in California. Initially, I didn't have any money for the nice Ral Partha pewter miniatures, so I used the fold-in-half cardboard cutouts that came with the boxed versions of the game. Sometimes it was just a blank piece of cardboard I'd write the model name of the mech on to represent my piece on the board. haha Later on, I owned quite a few of the RP miniatures. I even had the original Robotech-copied versions of the Warhammer, Marauder, Archer, and Rifleman before they became "unseen". The original RP version of the Atlas was always my favorite, followed later on by the Timberwolf/Mad Cat.
Back in the mid-90s, I was even one of the first people to start playing Kesmai's Multiplayer Battletech in all of its EGA glory on the old GEnie dial-up internet service. Spent tons of hours in that as a teenager. Later graduated to the succeeding MechWarrior games in the franchise, including the ones you pointed out, and also really enjoyed MechCommander on the PC as well. The only reason I bought an original Xbox back in the day was to play the MechAssault games on it. I actually really liked those as well, even if the game play was extremely dumbed-down.
I totally agree that Battletech could have been much bigger if it had been marketed more effectively. There is so much IP there to mine from it's crazy. I have the latest MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries and BattleTech games on my new gaming rig, but I haven't tried playing them yet. I hear there is quite a following also for the PIranha Games version of MechWarrior Online as well. For whatever reason, it doesn't seem like Jordan Wiseman can ever seem to come up with a new take on the IP that brings it back to popularity, which is weird.

That’s super cool man, really glad that there are Battletech/MechWarrior fans in the house.
Some guy on Reddit printed a 2 feet tall Atlas. I dont have Reddit but I want to register and make him offer on the STL file
I think he’s accepted offers to print it for $500 (unpainted)

But yeah, lots of old school gamers were put off by the lack of joystick support in MWO and then MW5. Even if joysticks are less competitive versus keyboard and mouse online, the immersiveness is not the same. I mean, the Microsoft Force Feedback joysticks were synonymous with the PC games. Reddit is riddled with threads of old-school players trying to get back into it, and then finding out that joystick support was an after-thought for Piranha. And also, that their beloved force feedback is no longer supported by Windows 10+ (I was one of those people 6-7 years ago
But to a greater extent, it is poor marketing, generally speaking on the whole franchise as you alluded.

ketzer7 Rainmaker Oh, that one's not on Gambody. As i was mentioning earlier in my other post: some guy on Reddit posted it recently and came up with the design for it himself. I wanted to register on reddit just to ask him about it and make him an offer on the file.Gamebody has no Atlas designs at all on any scale, maybe another STL hosting site?
I'm doing the Timberwolf, the Summoner/Thor, and the Mad Dog/Vulture. Simply cause I wanted a full Omni-mech clan-based lance. I'm painting them in either Clan Ghost Bear or Clan Wolf colorways with corresponding decals. Someone out of the UK has ebay listings with all of the different Clan decals for both miniature and 1/60 scale.
I also really want the Catapults too but since theyre Inner Sphere, i skipped them for now. Other clan based mechs I really wanted (from www.Gambody.com) were the Shadowcat and Hellbringer/Loki.
The Shadowcat has a special place in my heart cause that was my main mech back in the day when I played for CGB in MW3, and then the Loki/Hellbringer in MW4..
Edit: oops wow somehow I missed that 12" Atlas while browsing on gambodyLast edited by the_matrix_guy; 03-28-2022, 05:50 PM.

The worst so far was the Body which failed like 35 hours into the print! UGH!!! However, it is working out though, as the_matrix_guy said he can used the failed parts as destroyed mechs in the field.

shooter311 A big thanks to Eric, I got the first two mechs last week and just got a chance to put one together. I got the Summoner/Thors first. First impressions: its bigger than I had imagined even though I knew it’s dimensions. It’s different when you have it in your hands and in-front of you. Also the metallic/gunmetal fillament is absolutely perfect for the mechs. It really looks like metal. It looks so good, I opted to leave some of the support material, especially around back. It looks like steel reinforced armor. So keep that in mind, hence why it looks a bit rough, it’s not a misprint. But it’ll be perfect for battle damaged / weathered effects once i get around to painting it:

The files actually came with a different set of ball joints! They were labeled as "Repaired" and I thought that seemed really odd. I looked it up and it said those were not needed, so I didn't print them. I can print those and send them to you so you can see which works better. I think it is a good idea. If those work much better, I won't bother printing the standard joints for the other mechs!

shooter311 Oh thats interesting. Yeah maybe the repaired joints could do the trick and would be better. I would need a few baskets for the ball joints cause i had to mod them to even take those pics. I drilled metal pegs from a TV console table, i can get the arms to stay up now but if you touch anything: everything falls apart 😂Last edited by the_matrix_guy; 05-12-2022, 04:03 PM.
