    Does this sound right?

I've been thinking of doing some 3D printing.

I recommend looking around for rentals first. Get your CAD models ready ahead of time. My local library loans them out for 2 week periods. There are maker spaces available in urban areas that will let you reserve time.

Make no mistake about it - they require maintenance. Unless you're in it for the fun or are using it on a weekly basis, it's probably cheaper to out source.

I use them at work on a regular basis. We have dozens of them in various sizes and capabilities - from Prusa to Formlabs to Raise3D... It requires a person dedicated to their maintenance and upkeep. Not full time, but it's a noticable effort.
