Now that I mention it, one of the most valuable things I have gotten from 3d printing is the education of 3d design and formative manufacturing.

I learned g-code and CNC use way back in college, but being able to design or just doodle some art and print it has been very educational.

I ordered the wrong size center caps for my truck. They fit properly on the outside, but the inner mounts were too small. Took a couple of measurements of the difference of the ones that came with my car and the new ones. Made an FDM prototype then made the final versions in ABS like resin.

I’m so glad this thread was made. I’m inspired by the creativity and ingenuity. I print for myself and don’t need approval to get value from either the journey or the results of my printing efforts. Some of my prints are purely aesthetic and have no utility, but that doesn’t mean they have no value. What a crappy world it would be if utility was the only measure of a thing.

It’s incredible to see the great prints - from the simple knobs to fixing blenders to cool D&D sets. WOW. And the forum even managed to post most of these without feet in the photos!

OR, you can combine one dubious use of resources with another!

There's all sorts of fiddly bits you can design or just print for espresso machines. Filter carriers, tampers, adapters, tamper-holders, mirror mounts, weighing trays, high clearance catch trays, etc.

Of course, if you're buying a couple of Starbucks drinks a day, replacing them with a home machine has a good payback.
