Made a tool for removing stuck regulator end caps

    Hey ya'll,

I made a simple but useful tool for removing stuck regulator end caps and just wanted to share the link. It works by threading the reg in and then clamping in a vise (or gripping with pliers) to help prevent marring the threads or finish. Used in combination with a strap wrench (or kung-fu grip) on the reg body, it should make short work of stuck end caps.

I know someone used to make a similar tool but with the female threads welded on to vise grips; I couldn't find it so hopefully this helps someone in a similar bind as me.

EDIT: If anyone wants one, but doesn't have access to a printer just PM me and I can ship you one for the price of shipping + $2-3 to cover time and materials.

That’s probably a better design than the vice grip tool. Less likely to mar anything.

Vice grip benefit being it’s more portable in a tool box.

But I like that idea! If you print some more I would definitely buy one off yah.

Hyper2s have a hex broached on each end so you can use Allen keys.

I wish the hex end caps caught on earlier lol

    Thats a great idea!

I'm sure it's a lot safer for the threads, then just using soft jaws on a bench vise.

That anno came out great btw!

Thanks! That was my first try with anodizing so I'm just glad it didn't mess it (or my skin) up.

It seems to work better than soft jaws on my 4" vise at least. I was having A LOT of trouble getting the cap off that black magic when I was disassembling it to ano and rebuild. I tried a couple pieces of scrap wood, soft jaws on the vise, soft jaws on some channel locks and a strap wrench. My soft jaws are printed in TPU (flexible plastic) so they would kind of squish out under too much pressure or torque and let the reg slip.

all those WGP regs are a pain to take a part. ill print one of these later. Did you use standard PLA ?

Yep, just used plain PLA with 6 walls and 40% gyroid infill. I made a few more versions last night that have varying heights and cutout dimensions that I'll upload to printables here shortly. I printed a couple of those alternate versions in PETG for Chuck E Ducky and sent them along so they can help test for the ideal material.
