That's right. Since 2020 has been so crappy, I messaged Spider! and we agreed to revive a great MCB classic in this, the poo-iest year yet.
The concept is simple: this is a poo-polishing contest. Find an old, cheap, beat up pile of excrement, and shine that puppy to a high gloss. In plain English, acquire a beat up paintgun that most players would toss in the bin, and using a limited budget, turn it into an elegant, refined weapon of paint war.
Rules:
1.You have wide latitude to select your starting material. Extra credit will be given for fouler starting points. The initial gun buy does NOT count towards your budget. You are welcome to start with something you already own, or purchase new crap. If the electorate deems your starting material not smelly enough, they will not vote for you.
2.You may use up to USD 125 to polish your chosen turd. Items you already own, e.g. from parts bins, do not count towards the limit. Tools, as long as they are not part of the final gun, do not count. After the initial purchase of the base gun, if applicable, you must document every purchase of parts or material that contributes towards the build.
2a. If you have an existing project in the early stages, that's fine; however, the budget rule applies to any parts you purchased specifically for the build. E.G. no "parts bin" exception just because you spent the money before the contest was announced.
3.You have 3 months. I don't want to crunch anybody during the holidays so you have until February 1, 2021 to complete your build.
4. Showmanship is everything. To enter, post up in this thread. You will also need to start your own build thread here in the Custom Projects forum and show us realtime progress from turd to masterpiece. It's as much a contest of storytelling as of skill.
5. Build threads will be locked after February 1 until voting is finished. At that time I will start a new poll thread of all qualifying entries to be open for 10 days.
6.This is by design an amateur contest, but pros are welcome to participate on an exhibition basis (i.e. not eligible for prizes). If there is enough interest I may open a separate pro category and we'll get ourselves a true Pro/Am event going. A pro is defined as anyone who has ever built more than two custom paintguns with the intent to sell. (If you built a paintgun for yourself and later decided to sell it, that does not count).
Spider! or myself will have final say on any rulings.
Prizes (Work in Progress):
Disclaimer: Neither I, Spider!, MCB, or any other entity assumes responsibility for actions taken by any entrant in the course of building and using their custom project. Please employ all necessary safety equipment (such as protective eyewear) and safe practices while building and using your paintgun. Follow all manufacturer recommended safety instructions concerning the use of tools or any other equipment.
