    The cold air seems to make the velocity go down. prob a air/fuel mixture issue. I always assumed the warm barrel would mean less paint issues but I have found the gun works better when its nice out.

    This makes enough sense it has to be the reason. Having a wet barrel would definitely be an issue.

    Now that you've got me thinking about it, didn't this actually get marketed as being good in the cold because you don't have any liquid CO2 issues?

    IIRC they went with a composite barrel because even a small heat differential could cause condensation, resulting in terrible accuracy. It would be like playing in the rain on a sunny day.

    I just can't see how barrel heat would matter when the body is aluminum that gets hot. Unless the rationale was that the lower thermal conductivity of the carbon fiber would put less heat into the ball while it was sitting in the breach/flying through the barrel? Temperature is going to be pretty similar though because you have the same temperature exhaust gasses flowing through it.

    Burrs left on the inside was what I was wondering. I definitely don't want to try and hone it out either.

    +1 on the cannon, that's how it sounds to me as well. Maybe it's a sharper noise? Not sure, but something about it is worse than any other marker I've fired.


    I'll have to see if I can rustle up an aluminum barrel I don't mind destroying, hit the lathe to make it fit, and see what it ends up doing.

    Ok, I have one and shot it (with and without paint).
    Like any paintball gun, shoot it dry and it will make quite a bang ... C3 is no exception ...
    If you shoot paint, it sounds just like my PGP.
    For comparison, my Vector is much much louder ...

    It drilled easy enough and a file took out any burrs. Would i try and port it? No, because i would wont to hone it oit after and its already way to big bore.

    There's the real question, how did this go? Does it drill cleanly? How was post processing of any burrs inside or out?

    The back bottle is custom. its basically just an angle bar stock mounted to the velocity screw. makes adjusting the velocity a pain, but i have it maxed out and still get mid 200ish fps, due to small paint. i also drilled a hole in the barrel for a spyder detent, to stop roll-outs.

    Yeah looking at WARPIG they said it's even with a 98c in their testing, but the unported barrel makes it much sharper, which sounds more aggressive. I'm not a fan of shooting it in the backyard with some of the neighbors around. Good thought on looking at the regulation/venting side of it, I'll have to check on that.

    Right but I can't see how that is possibly relevant to this gun. The combustion chamber is aluminum held together by plastic. They don't appear to have been worried about it getting hot enough as to damage things. Surely it could have been made reasonably with an aluminum barrel instead since the combustion chamber is also aluminum.

    I'm not actually sure why the C3 has a CF barrel at all. Maybe I should look into modifying an existing aluminum barrel to fit.
