Wooden Bolt (This time for real.)

Had ants in my pants, so to speak, this evening and finally had to find out. Is it even remotely possible. Come to find out it was, with surprising results. Hopefully the poorly done videos speak for themselves.

Partially inaccurate dialog as the marker made its own detent notch. Performance was not affected.

      Want!

What length did you make the barrels again? I'm thinking I'll need a barrel and bolt, and then some grips and a pump handle to match as well.....

The barrels were roughly 11 inches. I would love to collaborate on a project. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

I feel like we need a t-shirt that says I'm so cool, even termites like my marker

Next needs to be something like a pgp wood parts on polished brass

        I do love this idea

Hell now that I'm thinking about it how hard would it be to do an entire pgp grip frame out of wood?

Lots of people have made pirate pistol stocks, so relatively easy I wood say 😏

If you had the right hardwood with the right grain, it would probably be pretty sturdy to make a PGP frame, it would just have to be thick, more like a Slider 45. If you use inserts for the frame screws and ASA mount, it should be damn sturdy.

Neat! Now I’m thinking about how much of a Tippmann 98 could be made out of wood....

Man this and one of those wooden barrels would look sick on one of my trilogy builds, some one needs to make a wooden cocking rod end next

You might actually be able to get away with the whole shell. Nothing in the Shell itself holds pressure since the valve is a self-contained piece. The only threading that is actually in the shell is for the grip panels and barrel everything else is inset nut

Might have to redesign how the pins are in there because I imagine they would want to pull out of the holes over time since they are so small

That's an interesting concept and I absolutely think you should try it

With a big enough and smart enough mill you could do the entire shell but…you’d need a really expensive piece of really high quality wood. It’s going to fall apart instantly unless it’s totally perfect hardwood in which case it will fall apart in a day or two from the brutally violent firing action shaking apart the super thin and now super fragile shell.

I think when it comes to making a pumpercocker you could make a majority of the parts. The body would need inserts but is doable otherwise.

What if you made it THICK? Like instead of a thin stock 98 shell it was a whole block of wood? The Trumph is junky plastic and still holds together more or less with the same design crammed into it so i think it could work well enough. Wood receiver, grips, bolt, barrel....

Yeah probably some metal inserts to hold the pins that are under load from the sear, etc

Find the diameter of the pins and just swap them out for bolts and nuts just like the body bolts

Barrel threading is a little harder.

If carving the big acme barrel threads is too much how about a slip fit wood barrel with a thumb screw to lock it in place like a Mokal Mirage has? Probably something similar for the feedneck too.
