Center feed automag

I haven’t looked too much into the fine details of this as a project, but I haven’t seen anyone do it and I’m assuming there’s a reason.

What’s stopping me from cutting a new sear slot in my side feed mag, slapping a sticker over the old hole and tapping some new holes for a vert feed setup? I think I could even JB weld a bit in place where that little nub part is.

Already done it... works fine. The hardest part is finding a center feed barrel, but one of Doc's adapters will also work.

I would suggest you move the threaded bit to its new location and solder or braze it on, though. JB isn't going to do the trick.

Keep in mind this body was pump milled, which is why the sear slot is so large.

From what I remember finding center feed barrel was harder but using a doc cocker adaptor would do the trick

Awesome! I think that’s gonna be the next project then. I see what you’re sayin about the center feed barrel, mines got left and right but maybe I can figure something out for center. I can’t braze with what I have, I could try the solder method and if that’s not strong enough, I can find someone with the needed equipment.

They're silver soldered from AGD - I used a brazing tip on an oxy-acetylene torch to desolder the nut, then brazed it back on in the right spot.

It's tricky but doable with just a ruler, file, and drill bits if you're capable with tools.... I also had a bench vise, but its not really a requirement.

For the barrel - for $40 get a Doc's adapter, then you can run Cocker barrels and have a modern detent that actually works on today's tiny paint.

I guess I’m really underestimating solder. I’ll see what I can do with a propane torch, but I don’t hold a ton of hope for it.
