I'm surprised nobody has 3d printed them yet, at least I don't think I've seen any.

Tippmann SMG 68

IMHO Tippmann Pneumatics only ever put 3 real design errors on the market:
1. The F/A's hydraulic cyclone system (cool idea but just too complex and finicky for most users)
2. The C3 in general (again, cool idea, but they never lived up to TPI's reputation for reliability)
3. Designing the SMG-68 to have the valve slam into the magazine while simultaneously changing that magazine to aluminum
And the first two were so cool and innovative I have a hard time calling them mistakes... But, probably, they shouldn't have made it to market in the state they did
Tippmann Sports, on the other hand... I don't have enough fingers to count every ugly POS shell that they stuffed with a 98 valvetrain

Yes they are that rare. Relative short manufacture run. Only the FA had a shorter run. The valve motion destroys the the aluminum magazine. Oh, and then a lot were sent back to Tippmann for the the 68 special conversion. I bought 2 last year in the $800 range. The original clips are expensive, though mostly over priced. But with 3D printing, the strangle hold on the price of clips is beginning to slip. Still uses a CO2 siphon tank or the Bret G valve mod. So, $1,100 is not too far out there.

So anyway i can have a tippmann smg that shoots modern 68 paint and will work reliably? What work does it need to not destroy itself? And how much different is how it shoots compared to a M98? Cause I really only want the smg because it had that old school WW1-2 MP/SMG side stick mag.

The mag needs to be redesigned, It could be a steel extrusion, or at least a steel insert for the breech. I had thought I was going to do it, but that marker is now firmly in 'maintain original condition' state for me now.

if you want the left side feed stick mag look and 98 reliability, I have a ton of guns that i have modded for mag feed from side or bottom. They use current tippmann/zeta mags . No special clips to hold paint, just the removable mags. As a matter of fact I did a mp28 with wood stock. it was in my gallery on the old site.
