What you have today is, ebay shipping calculations are "retail rates" but the seller pays commercial discounted rates. The difference would cover the fees, in fact sellers usually gain a couple bucks "on top" for larger packages assuming they put in teh real dimensions upfront.
HOWEVER, some sellers dont understand how fast retail shipping prices can go up relative to inputs --- they pick priority mail ($$$) and crazy dimensions and you get this as a result.
Buyers need to be cautious that a commitment to buy means "at rate shown" including shipping. If you want cheaper shipping, the seller has to handle that before you buy.
