Well, Turns out it's not been lubed in ages, the bolt may be corroded in place. I didn't have much time to inspect it before leaving for work. I should be able to dig into it further this morning or tomorrow.
im pretty eager to see where it leads.
any tips for inspection?

every picture has it racked back, I'd say start with penetrating oil then tap the bolt forward with something soft (wood/leather). hardest part is going to be rotating the bolt to unscrew the lug, then racking the bolt all the way out the back to be able to unscrew the cocking rod (long wood dowel down the barrel is easiest)

I ended up hitting it with oil. I did manage to work the bolt free with some moderate persuasion at first. On the topic of disassembly, I was able to extract the bolt. and begin soaking in in hot soapy Dawn. I have to say it took me about 10-15 seconds to reconsider every bit of work I was about to do as the sludge build up started to hard flake off. I went back and took a smell of the barrel and confirmed it being oil base. I haven't smelled that in years and it's a scent I only associate with my early days playing. I started playing when oil base was rare, so it's definitely a scent that took me back. I can't help but feel a little sense of remorse in cleaning this old girl up and deleting a small but still important part in our game. At any rate though I can tell you that it looks to have never been taken apart before, there are no tool marks, scratches on the brass square nut, the lug screw looks like it was just ground down yesterday. I have a feeling someone's only bit of customizing they did was in pirating and then refinishing the stock. The only thing not looking period so far has been the philips head woodscrews holding the trigger guard on but for all I know that may have been original spec. I though don't think it will be a terrible thing to clean out the crud in the barrel I do though wonder what the best approach will be given that it smells of shellac. The bolt did show signs of pitting but not badly, I was able to scuff them out, I may go pay a visit to my brothers and use the lathe to even out the bolt finish, did anyone ever make upgrade bolts aside from Cooper-T?Last edited by Chemical-x.....ahain; 12-06-2024, 01:40 PM.
