Smells very similar to a skunk but not exactly. If the smell is kind of weak it can go either way for me. If it’s really pungent then it’s almost always a skunk. Hard to describe but the skunk’s spray usually smells more concentrated if that makes sense.

I have had the displeasure of being blasted, while raccoon hunting.... I find that black coffee more closely resembles the smell of skunk than any bud I have since smelt, or smoked.

"skunk" is such a weird strain anyways. Aroma/flavor profiles that can be : citrus fruit, earthy, limburger cheese, cat piss, haze-like, all over the place.
everything these days is a diluted/reworked version of the original skunk terpene profile. people prefer sweet over pungeant.

True match to skunk aroma? No. You wouldn't be able to get near it, it is a defensive spray after all.
Let a batch of roadkill skunk cure and properly age like a fine wine....you get something that makes you turn your head real quick due to the bouquet.
It got plenty of people busted way back when they transported in public. You weren't hiding the smell no matter how hard you tried.

From a distance, skunk spray can smell a bit like coffee... so...I think skunk spray just has an odd smell that can play havoc with our perception.

My colleague used to smoke a lot, but quit when he had a kid. His kid is now 18 and he's due to retire in ~5 years. We have plans to get good and stoned as soon as he retires

Started smoking the stuff when I was 16...17?
I'm 62 now, so that's what...45 years?
In my experience, odor is for the connoisseurs. Yes, what is considered "good" may have have a smell that resembles a skunk like a candle resembles a flower.
Odor is not a defining factor of potency and I've had your good old homegrown "Bakersfield Brown" better than any "Alcupolco Gold" or any of the new designer flavors that are available at the local dispensaries.
But how many have actually experienced a skunk?
I don't mean just driving by some road kill, but up close and personal? Like trying to get the smell off after being hit?
There's no comparison, really.

Used to smoke....a lot....but then life happened, family, jobs, responsibility, long story short haven't partaken since about 1989. I am now retired, kid is 31 and doing his own thing and I am completely open to a little recreation. Haven't yet but it is probably only a matter of time. LOL

Yeah edibles are a high consequence game. Last year a friend gave me some and I had a few good experiences with them so I doubled down...that was a rough night. Go slow because once the edibles have been taken there's no going back. You're just along for the roller coaster ride.

Start slow and be patient if you dip your toes in to edibles. I am well versed in the green arts and edibles can still destroy me if I'm not prudent.

Always smelled link skunk to me. Tried in a few times in my early 20s. Didn't touch it for many years. Have had one take in the last like 3 years and that was my wife's cousin bringing a joint when we had family Christmas dinner in 2019.
I will admit I'm somewhat curious to try edibles
