Is anyone using Ebay Managed Payments?

I buy/sell on Ebay a fair amount, and I'd like to hear any feedback from other Ebay users who have used the new Ebay Managed Payments system. Good, bad, ugly, etc. For those who don't frequent Ebay, the managed payments system is Ebay supplanting Paypal as the primary payment processor for purchases made on Ebay.

When the new system was introduced a year ago and only larger accounts were forced to integrate, I swapped to my smaller account to continue selling and using Paypal. However, it looks like I'll have to update both of my accounts to the new system by May 21st or forfeit my selling capability. Taking into account the nightmare that is Ebay customer service, I'm 50/50 on whether or not I'll update or stop selling there completely. Before I make the decision, I'd like to hear any feedback from other paintball purveyors who have already made the switch.

Aw jeez I have like a 500 feedback Ebay account I never use... I guess I'll forfeit it ah well I hate their Global Shipping Program so never use em. Etsy ain't too bad for selling, they don't ding you with lump sum fees at EOM (could force NSF fees if you're not careful), they instead take fees off sales right away. Canadian users will probably need a US based account (I have one in Maine or something I dono, never been).

I just setup a separate bank account for this purpose, I want to try and take advantage of eBay's audience, but not give them access to anything really important. They don't confirm the account, which I found a bit odd, just punch in your account numbers and go. You also don't get your money right away, it sits in eBay for awhile until they finish processing, and then sits and waits for the next 'Payout Date'.

One convenience of sorts is I don't have to keep track of eBay fees that I'll get whacked with in the future, they're pro-actively removed from the sale. But It does feel like I gotta raise the price way too much to make up for their fees.

I did the same; new checking account for ebay and any other services that try such a move. The ebay fees are straight up unethical... 13% of everything. Ugh. Look at Craigslist... free since day 1 and still going strong.

Craigslist is like a ghost town now. Everything taking a dump to Facebook.

Can you link it to a card (ie: credit card)?

So now we're at 12.5% total since no PayPal?

You mean Mangled Payments? Yes... I finally gave in. Created a separate checking account just for Ebay b/c I do not trust them. It works, however I had one heck of a time when swapping checking accounts - the UI is full of bugs and it would not let me finalize the swap without CS intervention. That was a couple of hours of my life down the drain.

Nope. Totally deplatformed..... I'll buy but no longer selling.

Between the fees, always siding with buyers regardless of proof of things, and wanting access to a bank account they can die off like geocities.

Looks like I'm getting hit for 14%, going by the actual numbers I see in the results. Kind of absurd.

Looks like lots of sellers dropped off ebay in the last week. Just went shopping for some pods and a pack and noticed only a handful of sellers of specific items where you used to have tons of ebay stores selling things like Dye Alpha pods in 6 packs. Now it's just a couple sellers selling single pods.

I am setup however they asked me to be and it seems to be fine. I checked the maths and the overall toll seemed less which is good.

They do a good job making their platform garbage though.

Yep. Went to Managed Payments since my account was big enough. Had no choice, since I refuse to use Facebook, eBay is one of the few remaining routes to reach a decent market.

No complaints so far. It takes a couple of days to get a payout, but really, it took a couple days to get a payout from PayPal, too.

It's worth noting that this isn't entirely just some eBay crap- a lot of tax laws got rewritten and added to recently, and so major online sellers HAVE to better track who gets paid how much and when.

Can't say I'm a big fan, but honestly, the only way to sell anything online these days is through one of the major sites- eBay, Amazon, Facebook, etc. I have my own online store, and that gets effectively zero traffic- maybe one, two, sales a month. On eBay I get two to five a day.

It used to be individual stores were the big thing, now nobody wants to buy anything unless they can "one stop shop" and get everything from stepper motors to toilet paper from a single place.

Stores like your fine store here https://docsshop.storenvy.com/ in paintball in particular start to have a bad reputation for being questionably up today because of the classic derelict paintball websites showing stuff in stock that has been out of stock for years ETC, so most people will favor your ebay store when they have a chance. The Ebay aspect adds some credibility and buyers feel like they have a bit more leverage with a known third party involved in the mix.

Whitewolfairsmithing was one that I ordered directly from and had no problem but a lot of people liked ordering from ebay instead just for that extra layer.

I don't sell a lot but I really think ebay is a great platform. I just wish they wouldn't let single sellers spam their website with 1000x of the same exact 100x item available china junk item. There should only be 1 of each of that junk not 1000 of them. It just ruins the experience and buries independent sellers.

I actually got to talk to an ebay guy in real life in san fransisco when I was buying craigslist furniture from him and told him this feedback. I knew it wouldn't go anywhere but it felt good talking to an actual human being at ebay.

I sell maybe 1 thing a week casually on ebay, managed payments has been fine so far. I haven't had to deal with a bad buyer or charge back yet, but its not like paypal was ever helpful with that.

tldr - seems about the same.
