Falcon16 That's really cool man, being able to immerse in so many different cultural perspectives really adds some richness to life. You sure have a lot of ideas for the future and as they say: plans are pointless, planning is integral!

Agreed, the time to really reflect on life has been a blessing, her celebration of life was very nice yesterday, It meant we could all come together to celebrate her and all the sacrifices she and my grandfather (who died in 09) made immigrating from Jamaica to Canada to give my dad, aunt and uncle a better life and by extension give those of us that came afterwards more opportunities. The talk turned to a big family vacation next summer so that'll be nice to go back to Jamaica ( haven't been since I was 5) and to just relax and take in not only the homeland of my grandparents but to more fully appreciate being a dual citizen (got my Jamaican citizenship through my dad earlier this year) Means I can more easily buy property, have businesses and if I want to do more schooling I can attend the university of the west indies (even via online learning) for the local rate rather than the international. I have been considering when I retire (which will be 30 years from now) taking my inheritance (which I know is coming) and buying a place down there to winter and then stay up here during the summers.

Sorry if I'm rambling, I just appreciate you taking the time to check in with all of us and give us a space to decompress etc during this rough time overall.

Hey man i really appreciate the homie check! You are a real one Jonny. Doing pretty swell. Work keeps me busy when i'm not with my son or working on the house. He is on his way towards 2 years old so the toddler tantrums are starting to roll in. On the bright side he is happy %99 of the time so we feel like we hit the kid lotto. My local paintball field closed 6 months ago.. So i have been out of play for quite awhile. Still tinkering and doing some backyard shooting but i definitely miss actual paintballing. Hope everyone is healthy and happy inside and out!

Haha, will do. These things are never truly finished. Right now we don't have cabinet doors, counters, appliances... mostly completed electrical, walls, and flooring throughout. Looking forward to building myself a fire pit.

Keeping busy. Forecast of a long, hard Winter has me dropping trees and dragging them out for firewood. Not always an easy get. But a dozen trees this past week and a dozen more marked as standing dead wood. I spend more time getting to them than actually pulling them out. And a lot more I haven't gotten to yet. Not to mention the amount of blood I'm losing wading through the thorns. But I should have 4-5 cord cut, split and stacked before having to fire up the wood stove.

I've also shot two bears, both were inside the pen for the birds (geese, chickens and guinea hens) so one freezer is pretty well stocked up. Where I'm at, there's no restrictions about shooting predators getting at your livestock, although you have to report it.
I'm pretty far out in the sticks, like an hours drive to the nearest dunkin donuts, and even further to the nearest paintball field. So all I can do is target practice and try to get out a couple times a year, which really bites after living where the closest field was five minutes away and a dozen fields within an hours drive.
But hey, I get to shoot bears.

Whew - moving into a fixer-upper? I'm buying stock in Red Bull this week.

Best of luck. I've been moved in for over three years and still trying to finish the kitchen. If the wife needs corroborating evidence that you're not the slowest at it, HMU.

More going on than I care to think about. On the good side, in the past week I've not only played paintball on the company dime - but I've also found time to mountain bike a little...my two favorite hobbies that have been neglected for many months/years. Both of my electros were shooting perfectly so I got to loan them out to my colleagues. The new house is coming along nicely. Wifey is super involved and making sure everything goes well.

On the temporarily-sucks category, most of my stuff has been boxed up for the better part of 5 weeks, haven't seen much of my family, and our new house has been a much bigger project than expected - both in time and money, though we're getting more for our money than we expected.

And the sucks category - new commute really takes the wind out of me M-F and won't be much better after the move. Is what it is. Just need to get a car that lets me sleep while it's on the highway.

Good- It's a warm weekend, I get to play paintball next weekend, I'm back to purging rooms in the house, and I'm slowly working through a couple Metroid games in preparation for Metroid Dread releasing in 6 days. I am so excited!

Bad- My younger boy has been a bigger pain in the ass than usual as of late, and Dad's got cancer again. F'ing yay. Been doing a lot of driving for his appointments.

So good and bad. But I'm doing OK overall I guess.

When we first got married, my wife got me a pair of nerf pistols. We played maybe twice, then as she ducked into cover, I shot... and it missed her eye by an inch, on account of the ducking. So that was the end of that.
Safety glasses and turning it down a notch.

Sounds like you're living the life. My oldest is going to hit 3 in Feb., and the wee one hits 1 in Nov. The 2yr difference is really incredible. Looking forward to some nerf battles of our own.
Working...
