Thoughts on cognac or port-finished whiskeys?

everyone on local Facebook has been head over heals for high wests midwinter nights dram. Still Austin has an option though expensive. I’ve seen a couple other options but they don’t get a lot of attention.

I have had the glenmorangie 18 year which is finished in Sherry casks. I liked it quite a bit but I’m not sure scotch is my cup of tea.

Looking for Angel LED single finger trigger. Also splashy mag parts.

Man, my shift-key finger really has a mind of its own lately.

    Not worth your life men.

I like the stuff but if it isn’t at Costco when I come through I’m not buying it. I like scotch though, Oban 14 and chivas 18 are my favorites for the price. I really like bookers cask bourbon especially after drinking weaker stuff.

I don’t feel like shopping for alcohol is a great hobby though in the overall spectrum of hobbies.

feels like trying to get hard to find hot wheels or something.

I've never met a whiskey chaser that seemed like a role model.

Sounds like you have a similar pallet. Bowmore 12yr is my favorite. ~$45/750ml and fairly easy to find. Basically Lagavulin with a subtle sweetness.

This new adventure scratches an itch for me that is VERY close to the itch that demands I keep looking for deals on splashy automag parts. I also see it as a new avenue for education, however unimportant the information might be. Knowing the difference in Buffalo Trace Mash bills and how to read Four Roses letter names like OBSV seems about as useful to the rest of the world as knowing the preferred HPR and LPR settings on an A1 Fly Angel, and is probably interesting to a larger audience.

I see this new hobby as coming and going or sticking around, probably depending on how well the itch is scratched and how often the information gets used. I went down this same wormhole when the wife and I started running regularly and didn't quite make it to this point with cycling. Having a baby a year ago rerouted a lot of that time to figuring out how to keep a kid alive. Now there is a little extra time, but not quite enough to get back into physical activity that requires 1-2 hour blocks.

Similar boat here. Did the single-malt boogaloo for several years myself before settling in on what I liked for the money. Occasionally grab an interesting bottle - typically Japanese whiskey as I did a thorough job on the single-malts already. Being able to taste differences in the water used based on the location of the distillery was fun for a spell, but not important. And really, that's what these are about... having fun. We're not trying to be role models. My life is worth spending doing things I enjoy. If it's not harming anyone else, they can take their morality and shove it somewhere other than in my ear. I have suggestions on where.... Enjoy the hobby, Sharkytrav. Also, 83psi LPR and 350 HPR off a 450psi supply - Fight me.

When you graduate to Scotch, let me know lad! I'm relatively new to bourbon and American whiskey myself, but Bulleit and American Barrels really surprised me.

Ha, will do! The Scotch world does seem more put-together than the bourbon world.
Working...
