Kirby’s Adventure was the first game I 100%’d. So many memories with NES, that first piranha plant in SM3 fucked me up so much when I was little.

SMB3 for sure. I spent a lot of time playing that game, even had dreams of playing that game. I can even remember the time I totally by accident discovered the whistle in the first dungeon. This was before the internet was really a thing, and I was too young to know there were things like magazines and books that had tips/tricks/hints/cheats/etc. I showed it to a friend who didn't know about it, but did know of one I didn't know of, which was the white box one in 1-3. It wasn't till years later with the internet that I learned of the other whistles.

I think it's hilarious that the NES came about because in 1981 then President Yamauchi called Uemura drunk one night, and requested he design it.

Aside from the greatest hits, I played a lot of 634 Sword, Pro Wrestling, RC Pro Am, Track & Field, and Dragon Quest.

I just came across a Contra Code for All Weapons! Down, Down, Up, Up, Right, Left, Right, Left, A, B.... time to bust out the old NES and find an old tele.

I never played the NES much, and that was only in the early 2000s. I don’t know how many times I attempted Contra. Even with the Konami code I couldn’t beat it. Gradius too. Lots of fun & frustration with those games, lol.

Also played a fair bit of Off Road with my brothers. That 4-controller splitter box must have been pretty cool back then.

I was able to beat Contra as a wee one, but I've attempted it as an adult multiple times and failed MISERABLY.

Hard to remember favorites from that era, but I'd guess Super Mario Bros. because it was easy to pick up and have fun. Once I started really spending time with games, I think Zelda was my favorite for the challenge, the lore, and the open world aspect. Many other games stand out for having interesting mechanics, like Excitebike, Punch-out, and Duck Hunt. Some for making me feel uneasy - in a good way - like Castlevania. Never really got into Mega Man.

Chrono Trigger wasn't until the SNES, and I didn't discover it until maybe 5 years ago....but wow...that game is great; soundtrack is great. Highly recommend.

I never got into Mega Man either. I've tried a couple times, but maybe I just don't get it. Never clicked with me. I recognize it's place in gaming, but that's as far as I go with it.

Megaman was awesome, the first handful of games were super challenging. The X series is a bit easier to get into. Chrono Trigger is one of the best games ever made.

Mike Tysons punch out another great! I will never forget the day I learned the moves to counter and avoid getting knocked out. Me and my brother worked at it for weeks learning it. Still to this day I can beat it I bet.

I always loved the original Mario trilogy, Mike Tyson's Punchout, Contra, Ninja Gaiden, and a not as popular title called Super Dodgeball! I can still play Super Dodgeball via the Nintendo store on my son's Switch and it's hilarious!

It was a different time. If you want to experience some of that classic anger you should try the new Metroid on Switch. It's fun, but it's HARD

Yeah games were way harder back then. Nowadays it's all about tutorials that hold your hand and "balance". Back in the olden days if you lost that was just how it went so you either got better, accepted losing, or went outside. I think it has to do with the NES gamers coming from arcades or at least being familiar with arcades. Arcade games were made to extract quarters and you weren't supposed to play them all day long you'd throw in a few dollars lose quickly and find something else to do.

Yes, what Jonnydread said. Metroid Dread is a blast. Not as hard as other Metroid games IMO (Fusion was the hardest one for me), but it's definitely up there in the boss fight department. So much fun.

I think the SNES is the sweet spot. The games weren't so hard that you couldn't figure them out (the 4 extra buttons helped & opened up gameplay as well) but they weren't so easy that you felt unfulfilled upon completion or that they were "throwaway" games. You didn't have to be a pro to enjoy them over a longer period of time, but many games still had a high ceiling in terms of gameplay.

At least that's my experience.

But for the nostalgy I will sometime play the original

Alexndl Super Mario All Stars is incredible. My preferred way to play all of those games.
