Man there's been way too much of this in mma and am happy to see ONE implement this I remember seeing the Ufc embedded when Joanna Jędrzejczyk was in the tub looking like she was on deaths door having issues with the weight cut, not to mention who would be superstars in their set weight Conor at Featherweight looked terrible at weigh ins, same with Mac Holloway, I remember seeing Gleison Tibau weigh in at 155lbs and being mind blown that he said he walked around at like 215lbs while his weight cut prolly wasn't all dehydration, I'm sure in his career he did dehydrate himself to make weight

I coach high school wrestling.
Same day weigh ins would help this issue.
My athletes do a begining of season weigh in and an advanced BMI test. This is their baseline, they are only allowed to compete at a safe fraction of that baseline.
The school athletic trainer takes care of this . As a coach I have no input.

I cut ridiculous amounts of water in high school to wrestle; I once put on 16 pounds from weigh in to the end of a tournament.
Worst season, I wrestled at 114, and hit 145 a month after it ended.
Hydration tests and mid- season correction (guess what - teens are growing!) would make a lot of coaches angry, but make for a much safer sport.Feedback

I'm all for anything that makes things safer.
Pro fighters should have same day weigh ins. 48 to 72 hours allows abusive weight cutting practices. You can't "recover" from reckless dehydration and perform in a sporting event in the same day.
It may seem counter intuitive, but I think it's the best way to handle pro fights. The incentive has to be performance based.
