I'm no Nascar regular, but that dude just earned a brass pair to hang on his trailer hitch. Wild move.Feedback

Saw that. What a move!
And now some teams are calling for NASCAR to make it illegal. What a bunch of whiners and sore losers.

I’m sure they will Nurf it. NASCAR is the most boring racing series and it must be kept that way in the name of safety. It’s sad when you watch the highlights for the crashes.

Different strokes, Chuck. Safety is the number 1 priority in all motorsports, but the implementation is different. F1 has a team of people who try to think of every possible outcome, every possible solution, and every possible penalty before the cars ever hit the track. NASCAR is generally pretty fast and loose and only slaps down a new rule if someone gains an advantage doing something truly unsafe. There is much to be said about NASCARs inconsistent rule enforcement as of late, but I don't think that applies here.
I watch a lot of different series and at this point NASCAR is my favourite. If you're watching it for the crashes, then it just isn't for you.

I’m just not into watching sports. Never was but lots of people are I have nothing against them. I just watch the highlights if at all. Even Paintball I find boring to watch. I would much rather play a sport then watch it. Like people that watch others play video games I just do not get it at all.

I'm shocked this is the first time it's happened. I imagine everyone that's ever played a racing game did this within the first 10 minutes of playing. I love that it worked out for him.
That said, it does need to be banned. The driver isn't in control at all, it'll lead to some insane crashes that have greater potential to fly off the track. Plus, having read previously about the crazy requirements of those walls, they probably have to replace every single wall the guy rode against even though it was just a single instance.Paintball Selection and Storage - How to make your niche paintball part idea.

Guys have definitely tried before, but the old cars couldn't do it.
I also don't think he could recreate it.
There is no denying that it was a ballsy move that undoubtedly will go down in the history books, but I don't want to see it happen regularly. He's lucky the entrance/exit on that wall stayed shut.

The safety issue really come in when you realize he did that on a "Gate" track not a "Tunnel" track. One of the sections he crossed while sliding around the wall was the gate to the track. IF it had failed it would have been a bad day for him. He even admitted that in a interview that he realized it was the gate turn while doing it and it was already to late.

Oh they should definitely not allow it every car will have rollers on the outside edge if they do. But they better not take it away from the guy. He drove the wheels off that car and deserves the position he took. Good for him, don’t do it again.
I don’t even like nascar but I will admit he’s my new favorite driver to root for. When is the next race?

Yeah the general consensus I'm seeing is that while it was an amazing last second decision that got him into the playoffs, it probably shouldn't be allowed ever again.
I just imagine a chain of cars trying it on the last lap or someone going up to defend it.
There was a 60mph difference between the cars on the racing line and him.Originally posted by Terry A. DavisGod said 640x480 16 color was a covenant like circumcision.

Racing is racing and NASCAR is NASCAR. This move wouldn’t need to be banned in any other form of motorsport because it is impossible in any other form of motorsport. Any car built to race would be destroyed. DTM, SuperV8, All Japan, Indy, F1, WEC, rallycross, only the bumper car tanks of NASCAR can grind a wall for a position.
NASCAR lovers and NASCAR haters will both see this as evidence to prove their stance.

I would call what NASCAR does NASCAR. I would group pretty much everything from speed boats to lawnmowers to NHRA to F1 and everything in between “racing”. In racing, intentionally hitting the other guy or a concrete wall is not only cause for a ban but also suicidal, for your race and also your life. In NASCAR its strategy. That’s the difference, I invented it, and I can do that if I want. You’ll just have to deal with the fact that not everyone loves NASCAR. I also hate the NFL so go ahead and put me on your list.
And no, you couldn’t do this in a WRC car. For one thing there’s no overtaking in the WRC. They don’t put the entire wheels and suspension inside of the crash structure. They don’t do that in most series…because they aren’t planning on hitting stuff. The cage of a race car is usually just for the driver. It’s one of the reasons NASCAR machines are heavier than anything but Supertrucks. They are massive nostalgic all-metal tanks designed for exactly this kind of redneck buggery.

Still not sure how NASCAR isn't racing in your eyes. Is it circle tracking in general that you're not into? Most late models, sprint cars, legends, and modifieds all use the bump and run. That's just short tracking.
Hell I've seen many cases of IMSA cars, spec miatas, BTCC, V8 Supercars, and more "moving" someone out of the way.
Intentionally wrecking someone in NASCAR is still heavily frowned upon.
I understand your point that this particular move wouldn't happen in other motorsports, but beyond the only successful wall-ride EVER in NASCAR, the rest is very similar. Like I said earlier, this still wouldn't be possible in anything but the current next-gen car.
Hell, Hendrick Motorsports is planning to enter a stock car in the 24 hours of Daytona.
