    Anyone make gifts?

I do, but I like to think when I can do better than macaroni on posterboard.
For instance, a couple of coworkers are into cosplay and Harry Potter. And I couldn't figure anything else out. I had almost everything in my scrap bins, it's been a long time since I've had a prop project, and I don't halfass props... So they got wands.

    What are they made from?

The letters are paper that looks like parchment. The boxes are uncorrugated cardboard; think cereal box. The plaques are 3D printed from resin.
The stamps are wax-stamped. I raided mom's craft supply.
The cards are the paper glued onto the cardboard.
The wands themselves have 3D printed handles of my own design, and the wood parts are... wood. Dowels in the handles, and the tips were actually sold as 'blank wands' for kids' halloween crafts. Drill holes in the ends and glue in bits of smaller dowels to join pieces.
They strings on the cards are samples of the core materials. The wands do, in fact, have lengths of dragon heartstring and unicorn hair within.
Well, suitable replacements. Those things are impossible to get on a deadline. And sound endangered.

Very cool. I made some wands for my kids a few years back, before I got into wood turning. It took forever to sand down the blanks to something remotely round. 3D printing is a good idea. I'm all about repeatability in design. I like laser cutting leather when I do my leather projects, because I can make the object exactly that same as many times as I want (and I don't need to punch holes, I let the laser do that part for me).

Not really any more but back in college I took a ton of jewelry classes. My final quarter I made both my wife and my wedding rings (on a college budget no less!) So not really any longer as I don't have access to tools

10 years later both rings are still doing great, still round, no bends or problems
