got the a pair of Raybans for my better half to see if she would like them.
well she does and i want to move these to a backup pair and get her something nice.

She is not a fan of the poly lens and wants something with glass. She also does not like the lens tint fade. she wants the lenses all the same tint top to bottom.
she like the frame style and likes how they have a matte (almost rubber like) finish. keeps them on her face.

anybody know anything about sunglass brands?

she like how square they are too. allot of sunglasses have that little jewel in the corners and are more rounded; 2 things she does not like.

aside from specific suggestions, whats even a good brand thats worth the $.

For Rayban look at their Wayfarer line, those are made in Italy instead of China and are better quality.

Maui Jim, Sun Buddies, Crap Eyewear, Persol, Oakley.

Stay away from clothing brands that sell sunglasses. Finding what she likes might still be a task, since style changes every 2 minutes, just have to look.

Usually I am not a person that goes for labels. Ecept when it comes to prescription glasses or sunglasses. The last few years I have used Ray ban and Oakley. Couple times i did have Nike for regular glasses.

I am one that like the more sporty wrap around frames. Medium size lens.

Oakley for her I would recommend Holbrook, ejector, maybe square wire. All my frames are metal. You can get Oakley in any frame material you like.

One thing I recommend is buy only polarized lenses I think it’s the main reason my eye sight is still to this day very good.

You can get killer good deals on Gov x if you know a first responder.

I second Oakley. Coasta del Mar also makes some nice options. Pick them out in person, though... Fitment is never guaranteed when buying online.

Don't get the Prizm lenses. Do get polarized lenses... not sure if it preserves vision but we all know by this point that it makes the world look better.

I had such a hard time finding sunglasses that fit my giant head so I went to Lens Crafters and Sunglass Hut and tried on a bunch of different frames. It lets you see what they actually will look like on your face. Then go online and buy them as you can usually get them cheaper.

Recently I've been wearing Oakley Holbrook sunglasses. They fit me and come in a wide variety of colors and materials.

My I ordered sunglasses though my optometrist and they measured my face and ordered a specific size directly from Ray-Ban.

Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Costa are all under Luxottica. I am pretty sure that Luxottica owns Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters. Since it is all one parent company, they more or less set the prices on all of those brands as well as the other brands they own. I have been using Fuze lenses for several years. They are a small custom shop that will make replacement lenses for any frame out there for an affordable price. If they do not already have the specs for your frame, you can send them your frame and they will make a set of lenses just for you. I really like their poly carbonate, polarized lenses. They have started selling their own frames too. My better half got a nice sent of aviator style sunglasses from Fuze and she loves them.

I just looked for basic lenses it’s not bad. Polarized are a bit more. For another $30 and my GovX discount I can get a new pair of sunglasses. But that’s with a heavy discount.

I currently wear Spy because they replaced a pair I lost a jewel on after 10+ years for free and I got to keep the old pair. All I asked was if they had extra jewels I could purchase they did not for the model I had and offered to replace them for free. So now I have a work pair and a leisure/driving pair. I love how well they block refracted light. Killer for fishing too.

Smith was a great, non-Luxottica brand, but my last pair has felt less refined. Warranty is awesome, though - send photos of damage, and they give you a coupon to pick a new pair of equal value. I'm on my fourth pair of $200 shades, after buying the first one in 2009 for $40 on clearance. I've paid maybe a total of $50 in "upgrade" charges since the first was list $189, and the third was list $239. The "damage" is typically rubber parts falling off, and they don't have stock remaining. (Tesa silicone clay is a good solution to that problem.)

Optically, Smiths are great. The frame is hit or miss; the oldest ones were best (titanium) while the newest are cheap acetate that creaks against the glass lenses.

Revant is a good supplier for replacement Oakley lenses; I'm picky and don't notice the difference. Other lenses were terrible.

read that Luxottica has like 80-90% of sunglasses market. They own all the major brand names. And all sunglasses cost them about 5-10 bucks to make.

I was a huge fan of the Serengeti line of glasses which are now under Luxottica and may be marketed under the Ray Ban name now. I have had several set of them over the years and all but the last set, post acquisition, lasted quite a long time. The latest set are still wearable, but the ear pieces basically just dry up and crumble away. Lux got so tired of me emailing about them that they basically voided my warranty as out of lifetime. I use those for driving mostly. I really miss them using Corning 'glass' that did the auto-tinting for light and dark conditions.

I use Oakley for cycling, shooting, and so forth. I like that aside from the actual frame bar (whatever that is called) you can readily get replacement sides and lenses even for really old models.

does Fuze have the ability to do glass lenses?

I am not totally sure about glass lenses, but I do know they can do perscription. You can e-mail them. They are very responsive. I had a pair of 5.11s with changeable lenses. Sadly 5.11 discontinued that model, so I thought I got shafted and move to WileyX (trying to completely avoid the Luxottica empire as much as possible). I did not like the level of polarization (the lack) that the WileyX lenses had, and stumbled into Fuze. They had the WileyX templates and I replaced my lenses with the Fuze ones. Those were GREAT. I send e-mails back and forth with them and finally sent them my 5.11s and they made a custom set, polarized, and all for me.
