A long time ago I watched a video of a claw machine company explaining setup of one. They got to a part where you could adjust the odds of winning. Basically how many tries before the claw would actually have enough strength to grab an item. That pissed me off so much! I love a good challenging game, but I hate feeling like I was swindled, I assumed up to that point the strategy of the owner was stacking the items, but to see it is programmatically rigged, stopped me from randomly playing those games. If I am at an arcade with my kids and see people have good results with one I'll play but those are usually the ones that give you a fifty cent ball for $.75 a play. Which I am fine with. I just can't handle the times that the claw wraps around the item perfectly then retracts without any pressure on the claws!

I had a friend growing up who was a savant with claw machines. I would dump a shitload of quarters and get nothing and he would clear out half the machine in a matter of minutes. Rain man level shit. He was terrible with women, but always had lots of stuffed animals for gifts soooo

I am actually really good with claw machines, and have cleaned a couple out completely (I was stuck at the Iowa State Fair for a week with my Mom manning a booth, so I had time). The wildest one I've ever seen was in Ft Myers, FL (bc of course it's FL) in a bar. The thing had live lobsters. I managed to actually hit one dead center, and had it almost completely out of the water when it kicked it's tail and shot out of the machine's claw. Weird that I needed to specify which claw, but here we are. Thing was nuts.
