Macgyver - not that new garbage, but the original with Richard Dean Anderson and his epic mullet, aviator sunglasses and turd brown Jeep YJ

cimematic perfection that the new generations will never know about, let along appreciate.

It was so dumb, but so self aware. I loved the original.

      Its weird-
I remember the day that Macgyver came out. It was on a sunday.
The following monday, in 4th grade, everyone was talking about the new show "Amazing Stories" by Spielberg. Premiered the exact same time.

I was the only kid that watched Macgyver, Now, almost 40 years later, Macgyver is a culteral icon. Amazing Stories is a footnote. Though, I did like Amazing Stories, I felt that they took the horror/fantasy anthology concept and just.... made it dull.

I feel as if our expectations have grown. Most of the shows, especially in the 80s were overly formulaic and ended the same way over and over but we still watched them. Heck I loved them back then, but to watch now would probably pain me.

Dukes of Hazard - Jump the Bridge
Airwolf - Fight another helicopter in the desert and use those missiles last not first so we drag out the fight
A-Team - Bad guy locks them in a warehouse filled with welding supplies queue montage

Again, watched and loved them all. But was the same plot over and over.

Now Magnum PI? I could watch that now. Great show

I've been rewatching a lot of 70's & 80's shows recently (gotta love Tubi). Miami Vice, I LOVED it as a kid. It was so cool at the time. I'm in Season 3 now and I realized that season 1 was the best. Season 2 was not so good. Season 3 had a different feel (and director) and it was better than S2 for sure. But the acting was terrible. The pace and feel is slower than I remember.

A-Team was another I loved as a kid. I can watch some here and there but I'm not going to binge on them. Dukes of Hazzard was a Friday night staple in my house. I bought the entire series on Vudu and it's been hard to watch more than an episode or two at a time. I'm up to season 3. It's been harder to watch them than I expected. I can't even imagine how bad season 5 (without Bo and Luke most of the season) will be.

I watched Columbo but it is the exact same show every episode. I really like Rockford Files. I have been watching them and they are still pretty good. I've tried watching some of the other 70's & 80's sitcoms but I can't watch too many episodes before I have had enough. I tried Welcome Back Kotter but after 2-3 episodes I was done.

I really want Moonlighting. I watched some for a while when they were in syndication and they didn't have the same magic I remembered but there are some episodes that were great and still funny. But with the licensing on that show, it probably won't come back on TV or streaming ever again. That's probably why I want to see it so bad!

Some shows I loved as a kid were auto man and whiz kids. Tales of the golden monkey, Simon and Simon. Greatest American hero.

the 80s formula was “citizens solved crimes, and the government was bad”.

I wear a Zeke the Plumber shirt when I go out to breweries as an age check method. I can basically pinpoint they’re between 32-35 with this method.

& then I go hit on their younger sisters.

Oh, Wow! What a great show. I forgot about the Nickelodeon goodies.....

Gotta toss "The Adventures of Pete and Pete" and "Clarissa Explains it All" in to the mix....as a 10-year-old pervert, I might have been jealous of Sam having direct access to Melissa Joan Hart's bedroom.

I know Zeke the Plumber and I'm 42...Am I developmentally challenged? Heck, I have the complete series on DVD somewhere but I did watch it when it was on air in the 90s first.

I miss all the weird game shows that were on Nickelodeon in the 90s that revolved around giant props and slime.

Oh yeah I watched Greatest American Hero again. It was ok. Not as great as I remembered, but not bad. I even watched the Greatest American Heroin pilot. That was truly terrible and no wonder it didn't make a second episode.
