    Yu-gi-oh card players

    Anyone play?

My son has been going to the local comic store in town. He usually plays pokemon and DD.

This past weekend he decided to play Yu-gi-oh since he had some cards. He said they are different, not only strategy but the cards, attacks and effects than pokemon. He of course did not do that well, first time playing and his deck.

anyone here ever played that can recommend on how to build a strong deck. Can be specific cards or decks. And any other pointers you can share.

Going to look around for cards for him

    Thanks all.

My favorite decks to build used to be stall/burn decks, I don't know how well that'll play out now days, I haven't played since school(early to mid 2000's) so I don't know how well those kind of deck builds would hold up to the current level of players and or newer cards available and any changes to rulesets, I'd say look up some YouTube videos and see what suits his play style best, and build decks from that, I used to spend hours on end rebuilding decks, have him build multiple decks and rotate them to get a feel, when I started I use to have a 2/3 decks built to play with and rotate through until I found 1 I really liked then that was my main with small tweaks and the others I'd rebuild and build to rotate in for funsies and 1 of them was literally build cause I enjoyed the art on the cards and they flowed with one another hope any of my pointless babbling was helpful and points you somewhere in a right direction

I've still got a few old decks from about the first 4 or so card releases.

The newer cards (has played against newer decks some friends had) are wild.

The early days where a lot slower paced and more strategic.

Now it's just have all the right cards and you nearly can't be beat. One card summons card X which then if you have card Y you get a bonus to card X and if card Z is in play you have some other supportive thing which makes it nearly impossible to do stuff.

One of my decks revolved around taking cards out of play and sending opponent cards to the graveyard. Had health stuff I would use to generate life points. Had a few duplicate cards in the deck that would do damage amount X times every card they had in their graveyard or every card removed from play. It would come in lethal the longer the game lasted. I generally had a few monsters that where higher stats with lower summon ratings but nothing insanely good. Their base cards had difficulty attacking what I had and so I would send a ton of their base monsters to the graveyard. Rinse repeated until many turns in and slam down one or both of those cards and it would do damage in the 1000's.

I miss the early days. Out of 10 games I've played with my older decks, I lost all 10. Nearly beat my friend once, but he drew what he needed and it was downhill from there. The issue I faced aside from all the new summon stuff was my older stuff was meant for long term, 10+ rounds or so. Their decks can mop the floor in 3 or 4 turns if they get the cards they need.

I think maybe this is exactly what my son has. He might have some older cards that are good. But dont stack to the new ones.
