    Ford 3.0 Powerstroke



    Just picked my new truck up Saturday. It’s my first diesel. Anyone here have any experience with the 3.0 Powerstroke? I’ve never been able to justify a 250 or larger with the bigger Powerstroke in it or just that size truck, but I have been wanting a diesel for a while now. I enjoy the diesel tractors I drive throughout the summer on a mowing crew so that has been giving me the itch for an oil burner in a truck.

      If it takes DEF and you get cold winters be careful! DEF freezes at a relatively easy at -11 Celsius, 12 f. Learned this the hard way with our desiel 2500. Don’t let the DEF freeze

          i have very limited experience with dissel' but i was always told to let the glow plugs fully warm up before attempting to start in cold weather, once you start cranking you should'nt stop, and for the love of gawd dont let the fuel tank run empty... I do enjoy run-away diesel videos on youtube though.
          Probably none of this helps though lol

              It’s a redux of a joint venture engine from some time ago. Basically there is no V in the old PRV alliance anymore (Peugeot, Renault, Volvo, produced several super reliable diesels back in the day) so Ford stepped in mainly for Land Rover purposes. It would have gone through massive upgrades though to be worthy of modern F-150 usage, and to hit the crazy MPG they are getting.

            I believe in house, from the England plant. I know variations of the motor are used in Jaguar and Land River vehicles too.

              I appreciate your restraint. The V8 is truly ridiculously overly powerful. Semi truck class, basically. Much more powerful than the semi trucks of my youth, anyway. It’s a great engine but unless you are towing four horses or two race cars anyone with the V8 is just pretending they need it. Even putting it in a pickup at all is pretty fake. As a professional application (which is actually detuned) I think it will live another decade or more as Ford’s main pro engine. They are super durable as well as super powerful and actually clean! The V8 is probably the best product Ford makes worldwide just...way too much. For an F-550, sure, but for commuting? Come on, grow up, GI Joe.

                Thanks, I just could never justify a superduty for what the wife and I use a truck for. Basically landscaping materials for our house, towing our boat, hauling our 4 wheeler around, it’s the family vehicle when we take a trip, it’s my daily driver, materials for home projects or the occasional run to the dump for large stuff that the garbage truck won’t take. If say I had a landscaping business or a really big boat that a 150 couldn’t handle that might be one thing, but my boat with trailer, motor etc is barely 4500lbs. The only other thing we are considering is a travel trailer for camping once our son is a bit older, even then you can get a nice size trailer that a 150 can pull. This truck I got is rated for 10800 lbs towing, so probably a nice 7000 to 8000 lb trailer would do it.
