Returning Player - Starting From Scratch

Hello again all, most of you probably won’t remember me but I lurked and posted here from 2007-2010 or so. Unfortunately during the time I’ve been gone I made the mistake of selling off all my markers…. Custom halfblock Carter, multiple CCMs, a gaggle of phantoms… And unbearably my Buzzard.

I used to run to PBNation to gear up on soft goods and general kit for running. I’m currently looking around for another S6 or 6.5 I assume (I’m so behind the times I feel lost), but it’s made me realize I have NO idea where to find the gear I need to get back out again.

I was hoping to get some suggestions on what y’all are running now regarding open class hoppers, pods/pod carriers, barrel kits for the S6/6.5, and pretty much everything else.

after 13 years I feel like I’m starting over and can barely remember what a full kit looks/feels like anymore.

any input or recommendations on what to look for and where to look would be greatly appreciated to getting this old man back out on the field.

Thanks for the time and consideration. Looking forward to having some fun and, hopefully, recouping some markers along the way.

    Riots selling a Nice S6

Oh, it’s true. I’ll spare you all the question of “didn’t you just buy it!?” Yes, yes I did. However, another CCM popped up that I fell in love with and I purchased that. I most certainly do not have the money for two CCM’s, so this one is up for sale. Shooting Mint. No barrel. Comes with stock CCM reg, as well. Untested.

As for Open class setups I’m definitely partial to the Jolo hopper for PB DNA it feeds the best out of all the small cap hoppers it will hit like 12-15bps without butteries. I even run it on my modified emek. Occasionally I will run a modified Winchester. https://paintballdna.com/product/jol...ntball-loader/

Really like First Strikes new 2” round 4.5k tanks they come in a variety of lengths 17ci being my favorite.

    50 round pod packs check eBay for the cheap camo one with the 50 round GXG pods. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334558569125?itmmeta=01HPR9S4SZVYQBR5DEE506CA65&ha sh=item4de53ea2a5:g:NEkAAOSwEqlhvKxs&itmprp=enc%3A AQAIAAAAwCEX3lIRHlpRbpJD83SflDapSaCtfI3d1odmQErAEN 42e%2FkZif%2B%2BLwoVlFsocKOVUWzUMfrTOeFedBbsY9OasG boC11rNBpL%2FmZW1vfj5NoZ0%2BwJWQ7UCz0UF8TvzRjl5JU2 IZOEDQLrDge%2FQreusJRBRBdEVATB%2FBoarQiBW%2FJEsIVd e%2FAZjbL8wWsl2d%2Fb1904RNhFHgbkJcNIDFJbJ33X2xQBQ8 tqY3LA6Fbvg5BqV6igvrBrUkM%2Fci67DVsPzw%3D%3D%7Ctkp %3ABk9SR4bN5Im2Yw
    Or Pb Mafia 5-50.

soft goods that totally up to you. I like the old school denim gear it’s hot in the summer but deadens welts. I play a lot so I like the durability of the old denim stuff. Renagade, Evil Gerbil, or Handmade are my go to. Not much has changed with masks find one that fits your face. I like JT for comfort and style. Pants I run Deluth Firehose cargo pants.

Barrel kits are more of a personal preference. The ones that come with a CCM are great. Deadlywind CF barrels, any of the Dye barrels and Lapco makes a great set. A lot of the newer barrels switched from freaks to a new insert style but freak inserts still work great. .681 will for the most part is the new universal size. I rarely need anything else.

J4 paintball makes a really nice kit I have one and love it. You can buy just a single if you want cheap to.
POLISHED SS 350 FCB 4 Barrel Kit: In a world full of companies selling aluminum tubes often they all try and stand out with hype, claims of superior science and selling you the markup for that logo on the side. They pretty much all claim they are the best. A sad secret is most come off of the same machine. From OEM to many well known brands you are used to paying over $100 a barrel for. The same aluminum, the same tools cut them, the same machine spins them. What if you just want afforable performance in a clean lightweight package? The blueprinted crate engine option for your classic marker instead of a space gun barrel? What barrel did people want? When we polled our feedback group the answer was pretty clear. A Full Control 1 piece Barrel Set, with nothing but a really clean look to match their array of markers, often classics. Thats what they wanted, and it wasn't on the market. So we did it. The 4mula! line of products from J4 Paintball comes from feedback, finding areas of the market that are unfulfilled, we can innovate, or some items that we think are cool. Without paying a large price for the brand, just a reasonable price for the same barrel, the 4mula! Super Stock Barrel Set in Polish with a Soft Case is what you have been looking for.Set of 4 (.689, .685, .681 and .677.) with Terry Cloth lined soft case.Full Control Bore for consistant and efficient use.Lightweight, 92 grams/3.2oz350mm/13.78" longPolished Finish The SS Features nothing but the CDR (Core Drilling Relief) built into the front and the Lotus style of "Adding Lightness", coming in at 92grams/3.2oz. A small divet out of the tail stock, and clean porting at the end to maximize barrel pressure till the last 4 inches. If you run low pressure a FCB maybe to your liking. The CDR allows the ball to still have a nice squared release edge even after you take a few field cores, run it through the branches to get a clean shot, or try and scratch your name into local bunkers. You should have years of hard use and still shoot straight. Shiny

Outstanding! I was wondering if Deadlywind was still a solid option.

I appreciate the thoughtful response, huge help for sure.

Yup the DW barrels are great. My personal favorite is a pump PB tight stick manufactured for pump PB by Lapco. It’s a one piece barrel that’s a constant bore size from breach to tip. The gloss finish match’s CCM’s gloss black perfectly to and line up flawless. It’s a great looking barrel but they can be hard to find. The J4 while not as smooth bore as the Lapco can’t be beat for the money. Super thin clean simple look with good porting and a great polish job.

Hope you have deep pockets! Used CCM's have more than doubled in price, and new ones are very rarely made. If you use Facebook there's the CCM BST group, and the pump/mech group where you can find a lot.

Haven't found that group on FB but I'll check it out now. Yea I'm prepared to pony up, looking for a Gargoyle or a Buzzard as well.

Carters jumped a lot since his passing. Gargoyles are even more rare. Took me a few years to get my hands on one. Well kept ones bring a premium if you can even find one. RTR revival thread got its yearly tease so maybe we might see a version 2. Fingers crossed for a body with factory detents. A lot of the unique stuff gets traded amongst the members section (green/Red members) Also try the WTB section when you are ready that how I got my first Garg.

Had several, I'd rather piece together what I know I'll use the most. My S5 & S6 were my constant go-to's and now that I've got the means I'd like to continue that trend. Nothing wrong with a good ole Phantom though.

Absolutely just grab a phantom and go. Personally I hate OC pump guns, they just feel like broken semi autos to me, but the beauty of the phantom is it can very easily be made into a a SC set up, and dear God do they shoot that good good in SC configurations. But also it's a phantom, so if you get the itch for open class? Bahm it's there and a easily available. Want to switch back? No problem. Want a lever charger? Yep they do that well. Want a spring feed? Yep it's available. Want a smoother pump stroke? Nothing a Dremel, spent .22 cart and elbow grease can't handle.

I've both shot and shot out CCM's on multiple occasions, and minus the auto trigger, they just feel like a well done spump to me. Sure they are really nice, but other then the auto trigger and name, I can't justify the price.

Myrkul I hear what you’re saying. I’ve owned 4 phantoms and tinkered with them to varying degrees. However it never really “stuck” for me. Great marker, just not really my thing. Even with the UC builds. I mean the Phantom was my first marker when I was 16 lol, loved it until I started shooting other things.

I’ve grabbed an S6.5 that came in today and it feels like “home” again in my hands. I started with an S5 and phantom, then went to a buzzard for SC and never really ran phantoms again.

I’m happy to have several different markers around for different classes and configurations. More power to Phantoms and their owners for sure, but to each their own and it’s not really my thing.

Haha I saw and considered yours. Ended up getting the grey/blue S6.5. I’ll get a full body 86* frame soon as well.
Working...
