    Speaking of O-ring rot...

We've all seen it, right? O-rings either drying out and cracking, or turning to goo?

    Here's a tip: Check your Band-Aids.

I go through maybe two Band-Aids in a year, often not even that many. Odd for my occupation with whirly blades of death and all that, but I try and pay attention to where them pointy bits are. I like my fingers, and want to keep them as long as I can.

That said, I sliced a finger nicely just now, cutting some packing tape to ship a customer project home. I grabbed my box of bandages, went to tear the paper off, and the two halves fell off. There was nothing left holding them together.

Managed to get the bandage on, but it tore through almost immediately. And then I couldn't get the rest off. It was like trying to pick off half-dried rubber cement.

I have no idea how old these things are- there's a lot number, but no date on the box. But yeah, the rubber or latex or plastic of the band... had degraded just like those O-rings.

I pony up for the good fabric ones. At this stage of my life I would rather pay a little more for something that works and I can rely on.

I'm pretty sure I bought these before the fabric ones were developed.

And yes, I'm tossing this box out and will grab some fresh ones next time I do some shopping.

Hm, well you already have packing tape, and probably go through enough of it that it's always fresh. Just get a big box of medical guaze and you're all set! It's the secret that big band-aid doesn't want you to know.

The problem is not cutting yourself a second time trying to use the shipping tape to craft your makeshift bandage

I can say when you have children such a phenomenon doesn't occur.

Ice cream cones, cherries, or sprinkles. Those are my choices.

dont forget, the design on the band-aid is directly proportional to its performance. so much in fact that, if they dont like the design on the band-aid, it will hurt worse than the actual injury. they will scream in agony until a suitable design is selected.
