Lost Mail

I am curious if anyone has had any experience with attempting to retrieve a lost package from the USPS? I am referring to the mail recovery center in Atlanta. I have already done the online stuff as far as reporting a package missing and filing a claim.
The post office is now telling me that generally all packages that are “lost” in shipping or undeliverable end up being sent to some giant warehouse in Atlanta. From there it is hit or miss whether you will be able to retrieve it and I’m not familiar with the process. They are supposed to guide me through it but I was just curious if anyone on here had done it before? I ask because I currently have 3 paintball guns that have failed to make it to my house in the last month. Thanks for any info anybody might have.

Tried once several years ago, cant say i really
rermeber the process but the end result was not good...... Just ran me around in circles. Must work out sometime though so good luck to you

According to the website I looked at only about 3% of the items ever find it to their intended destination, so it doesn’t look good, but I imagine lots of it is easily replaceable items from online retailers so people probably don’t even try.

In my own experience with filing a claim, it was slow. With the proper information and pictures I was awarded a check for the insured value. No idea what happened with the item itself.

i had cd i order once from amazon get sent to zip code but no address lucky that person got cd was only 2mins from post office and got 2 days later

File a claim, but give it some time too. I had packages marked lost suddenly show up a month later.

The one shipped on the 16th with 2 guns is still missing, the other missing gun that was shipped on the 28th just turned up on a scan this morning. So hopefully it makes it all the way.

It's been years now but I recall that once you start the claims process, they initiate a search of some type. If they can't find it, they pay out if there is insurance. I've never been to the warehouse, but I do recall that on one occasion, they found my package after initiating the search process and got it to me. Package + label was damaged so it wasn't scanning which is why it ended up "lost". Other times they just paid out insurance.

How far along in the missing package process are you?

It was shipped on Oct 16th. I have filed a claim at this point. Once I get back into town next week I am supposed to go down to the USPS offices in my town and they are gonna help me reach out to the recovery center in Atlanta. If I find out any helpful details along the way I will be sure to post them up here for others to use.

I've had a package lost since the beginning of September. It is a dog toy subscription box so no big deal and the company is adding a box to the end of our subscription. The tracking shows that it is in one of the distribution centers.

As far as USPS goes I've only filed 1 claim. I had an automag sent to me and when the box arrived it looked like something chewed the side off the box and there was nothing in the box. The post master took my claim and pretty much said I'd never get what was inside the box. I was helping someone try to fix it and he didn't insure it so he was SOL and never got the gun back or any money for it.

Nearly 2 months after shipping I wasn’t even expecting this package to show up, but our mail lady rang the bell to deliver this personally because she felt bad because it was beat to hell. All that was in it were the 2 old grip frames, no Raptor LTD 2000 or 1st gen Raptor with green plugs. Maybe they will show up eventually on eBay or CL.

Just wanted to officially bring closure to this thread.

ive had 4 packages get lost in the mail within the last 2 months.
also, in the past, ive had a package arrive a year late. Some of these people are crooks. I was told that it was delivered to my address and that the deliverer would come back to the house that it was delivered to. never did. a year later i got the package with a new packing slip. the old packing slip was still on the package under the new one. LIES

Items marked as delivered before they arrive. Items delivered to the wrong address even though they swear it was delivered to the correct destination. Failure to deliver since no one was home...
Do they not understand that allot of people have cameras these days?!?!?!?
i was able to watch the footage and call them out on every event. We watched the delivery truck drive by and then mark it as delivered. We watched the footage when the post man said he was here but no one was home (an hour before and after he said he was here) and no one came to the door.

right now there been reports on all news media site that people are stealing more stuff now then before. all do to virus causing hard ship on people. since to many workers behind in rent or lost a job can not get back.

I love my Pi Cade. Old classic Games are great for my boys who are 3 and 4. They are hooked on Excite Bike, Mario, and the teenage mutant ninja turtles (arcade game).

The items that are getting lost in the mail are not expensive. (for me). I cant see a postal worker stealing an LED light kit for the back of a tv at $12, or 6ft for fabric braided 16ga power cord at $8

You think they'd sit and take the time to open the package to see what's inside before they walk away with it? Yeah right. They'd swipe the whole package and open it later

not a lost mail issue but i order new eye cup for my Z6 and when i go to usps app just show on way and does not give me update where at just say's at end of day. why is can not give better update where package at. also package has not weight to it

the postal service is incredibly backlogged. Boxes and packages are stacked in piles on the floor that staff have to walk around. Chances are, its simply not moving, and thats why its not "updating". i was told that when a delivery arrives at a post office / sorting center, its delayed by up to 2 weeks....

Maybe I will start writing "Cow Manure - careful opening" on all of my boxes I ship of value. Might cut down on people taking or opening them! 😋
