RIP Snowball, you were a fine dog.

I've shared the story about my sister's battle with cancer.

Her chemotherapy went poorly. She suffered every side effect the drug protocol had to offer. The result of that was nearly fatal kidney failure. She had a lot of dark days.

Part of her support system was Snowball. 110 lbs of golden retriever. Loving and supportive he spent his days posted up beside her. He turned 14 last month. His mobility has been bad over the last year. His hips were pretty much shot. Just as Dana's health was starting to improve, Snowball's declined. My sister found a vet who would make a house call to put him down.

Somehow he knew she was out of the woods. As if his final task in life was to get her through chemotherapy.

Just the act of typing this has me snotty a full of tears. My own dog is at the foot of my bed guarding me and the Mrs.

Goodbye Snowball. I was honored to share this life with you.

I’m glad your sister had Snowball to be by her side. Few things in life are better than a loyal dog.

      F**k cancer.

My condolences. One of the things I hate most in this world is having to put a pet down.

Well, guess I got the first cry of the day out. Just kidding I cried watching "sitting with dogs" this morning already.. I'm so sorry to hear man. I had to put my yellow lab Bella down 3 years ago because of her hips. It's a hard decision to make especially when their comfort is visibly diminished.

Dogs are incredible animals.they bring so much to our life well being, and look for nothing in return but love.I’m sorry to hear of your loss, and the pain of having put my dog down the day after Christmas is still present.I can only hope the best for your sister in her battles and hope she will someday have another great dog like snowball. When my dog passed the vet sent a letter and it referred to a rainbow bridge where our pets are waiting for us when we pass.i really hope it’s a possibility, for all of us.

I’ve been emotional all morning because the house call vet is coming to put down my roommate’s dog in a couple hours. Found out this week that my dog has cancer. Sad day/week for dogs.

RIP Snowball. You did an amazing job and will be remembered forever.

Most of us are essentially strangers on the Internet to each other. I sympathize with health struggles and death, but realistically, I'm not emotionally affected very much when something happens to someone's dad, or brother, or other human relative.

But every time someone loses a pet...

When we lost my cat, the vet sent us a very nice hand-written sympathy card which included a line that went something like, "the pain we feel when they're gone is the price we pay for the time we had with them." That line sticks with me. It hurts, but as much as I wish I didn't feel this way, he was worth the cost. Snowball was worth it, too.

I have to go. There must be a leak in the office above me and it's dripping on my face

Nothing is more brutal and beautiful than sharing your life with a loyal partner, no matter what kind of beast. It's a beautiful sadness.

My heart is with your family.

Sorry to hear about Snowball. 😞 I’m not looking forward to when my little guy goes. But I’m happy to hear your sister is improving. Keep at it, man.

Dang dude. My beloved family dog died last year. He was 14 yo as well. A Sharpei (I think thats how you spell it) mixed with a pit. Beautiful, smart dog. It's never easy. We watched him die in front of us of old age for about 3-4 days. It was hell. And unexpected because just a week prior -- he was still very active. But his heart just couldn't go no more. No matter what anyone says: it takes time to process the loss
