who wants to join the flat earther on this trip to prove us wrong
Yeah…because I really need to install special software to read bullshit websites loaded with scam ads…I just avoid the them normally.
I was perhaps too subtle, I was questioning the act of browsing and sharing clickbait. The OP never posts science articles from real science websites, for example, just this adverting industrial runoff. This article has no date but the original (nearly as horrible) Forbes article it cribs from is five years old. We’re making flat earthers look smart by comparison for still reading it.
I actually didn't know there were people who truly believe this.... I assumed "flat earthers" was a joke (no offense if it's anyone here)... but this got me reading a few articles and now I am intrigued.....

Ya know... the whole flat earth thing was just cooked up to distract from the truth... that the birds have all been killed off and replaced with lookalike surveillance drones..
its also same flat earther who do not believe in went to space to prove earth is round and so is moon and other planets or moons around the sun we fly around.

While they do exist, moon hoaxers, QAnon people, Birthers, Targeted Individuals, whatever Kanye is, etc I’m pretty sure the industry around laughing at them is 1000 times as lucrative. We’re essentially exploiting crazy people who need help but are never going to get it so now they sell vitamins and lead blankets on YouTube and connect with other whackos thereby reenforcing their own crazy theories. It’s pretty bleak.
The funny thing to me is on other conspiracies I can at least somewhat see why they would want it to be true/motivation. I am failing to understand why they believe so much effort would be put into pretending the earth was round...What is the gain for such an elaborate hoax?
What do they gain? Proving the earth is flat would obliterate faith in observational science. It would mean that everything you know is wrong. This is what they want. They don’t like the “elite” and their theories from on high. They want the end of facts. With no facts then everyone is as dumb as they are and everything just someone’s opinion. Victory.
I have family in this camp. Despite how incredibly easy it is to debunk yourself. But whatever.
There seems to be a clear path from Covid antivax to flat earth. I've seen it happen a bunch of times. The jab put both myself, my brother, and a sister in law in hospital, so I have some sympathy for that side of things. But I've always been skeptical of whatever the current narrative is. On the other hand for some folks it was their first time ever questioning the mainstream and it's like they get that new-convert zeal and just don't know where to stop.
I mean flat earth isn't even the worst one. Lizard people anyone?
I disagree there are lots of people I know who were anti vax (Covid) and openly state that. In the US it’s become a massive political ideological debate.
I have never met anyone who would actually admit in person they believe the earth is flat. (Just on the internet). I honestly believe the flat earth people are just a massive social media social contagion run by bots with very few real outliers who are just easily influenced by others. There are tons of ” theories” sold as facts this way.
Agreed - once there's a chink in the armor, some people get momentum too quickly. When you're taught to outsource thinking, then you have to do it for yourself, mistakes will be made.
Some people just can't choose which hill to die on, but know they want to go down fighting.
So there's a proper flat earth group in Denton, just north of me. I couldn't believe it, honestly, because it's a conspiracy with no relevance to any decisions unless you're booking flights. It's not like it informs who i vote for, my medical decisions, or even whether i use bug spray.
My favorite is that one of the guys went airborne in a homemade rocket to try to see the edge, and declared the flight inconclusive. So he needs to go higher next time. It seems like they have a lot of fun "proving" whatever it is they think. And no real negative impact to the rest of us, except the money they siphon off from other pursuits.
Money is likely the drive for the idea. I think the majority is more satire / trolling / bot conversation. I like to call it the “Ecco Chamber of Stupidity” (“I'm right and just, because other fools say so”) The algorithm on social media limits, dissenting opinion, ideas and even facts. The algorithm replaces them with an army of fools who all outsource thinking for shear manipulative purposes. Money, Power, Control being the main driving factors in the effort.
