Nice , I actually just watched an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation yesterday ( the pilot episode ) they had Dr. McCoy ( De Forrest Kelly ) from the original in a cameo appearance and he was telling Data why he would rather not use a transporter because it scrambles up his molecules .
That had me thinking if someone died on the show , a Red Shirt as an example , could they not just pull the last file and basically make a duplicate ?

why was there a transporter room on the ship? I've seen them beam someone from a planet to the bridge, what is the purpose of going to a special room first?

I would imagine that the actual transporter room acts like a relay station for the energy which has been dematerialized

If only there was a place on the internet where people could get answers to Star Trek technical theory…there isn’t. Not a one. Absolutely nobody online knows anything about Star Trek. These questions have no answers and never will. Crazy.

I found answers, none were satisfactory. Mostly, it gives the characters time to talk while they walk to the transporter room.

When I say, “The Internet” I do not mean, Facebook, Twitter, Instragram, or any other high profit stupidity amplifier. Try Wikipedia. Seriously. It’s quite genuinely the best site there is by a mile and with NO ADS. Since Trek is apex nerd territory there are many more Wiki-like resources.

Easy transport jobs from TNG can seem to go easily from anywhere to anywhere. Easy jobs are: less complex items to transport, less distance, simple atmospheres, etc. For example, beaming Picard directly from San Francisco to the bridge of the Enterprise currently orbiting Earth.

In doing this though the object/person goes through all the same transporter machinery. What if’s doing is beaming them to the ship, maintaining their pattern, and then beaming them into the bridge. More power, more risk, more time. If you’re orbiting earth and you want to beam some Mesopotamian artifact onto the bridge…easy. If you’re trying to beam a women giving birth through a firefight with Borg in the middle of some unexplained cosmic phenomenon…better go straight to a transporter room or, honestly, take the shuttle.

While it’s true that the Room was invented for narrative reasons, they also skip the room for narrative reasons. I can explain all the details of why Captain Ahab’s boat floats but of course…it’s fiction. It doesn’t float at all because it’s not real. It only “exists” so that Ahab can hunt the whale. As an observer of fiction you’re supposed to forget that.
