Side talk on a Sale thread

The first amendment is still a thing. As long as it's within the community guidelines, and you're not harassing people, I think we should all say what we think. If you're out of line, not only will the red ones step in and fix things, but everyone else will probably publicly shame you for your insolence until then. There's definitely better ways of handling certain things. Say you see something waaayy overpriced. You can just message the seller. If it's overpriced here, it's probably going to stay unsold, since MCB is a sizeable chunk of anything old, antique, or hand made, so we do have a good idea of market prices. And I do believe 99% of us here are capable of being civil. Sh*t posting is for social media.

If youre ever unsure on how to price things, theres the appraisal section. Its almost like most of this stuff was thought out by someone...

And I'll say it again, we should stop deleting sold prices from listings.

I don't have a problem with a little "side talk" on my for sale threads and sometimes add some commentary to others' sales threads myself. That is if it is a simple comment germane to the topic and not passive aggressive commentary. A "nice marker used to have one years ago miss that maker" type comment or similar is fine if anything it is essentially a free UP for the OP but we should not fill up a sales thread with a lot of busy talk and commentary it can kind of make it a pain for the seller to keep track of the sales part of the thread.

I feel policing someone elses post is a bad move.

I know i will sometimes post something witha "i don't really want to sell price" if people have been bugging me to sell

Problem with policing someone else sale post is What if you are wrong?

A example is the Niche Aloha Element I recently sold. I had people message me and tell me is was worth 1/4 of my asking (not on MCB elsewhere.) They had no clue what it was. It sold for near asking with out any long wait.

The idea that someone should be protected from criticism ONLY because it’s a sales thread is pretty offensive to me. If we can pick on flat earthers and moon hoaxers and eBay gouges here ever day we can pick on fools who want $3000 for a Spyder and try to get it off this forum’s members. Being out for profit shouldn’t excuse you from criticism, the opposite is more correct.

That being said…nobody cares if a thing is worth $60 and you’re charging $70. That’s just boring and so is anyone bringing it up. What deserves comment is when people claim something common is rare, or when parts are missing that a novice might not understand are crucial, when safety equipment or bottles are expired, etc. Nobody deserves to be protected while profiting from stuff like that.

I have always considered that the best best medicine for an obviously overpriced BST item is the crickets the seller hears.

I'm also aware we are on a social network. The driver of that is participating.

I have on occasion sent a PM when I see something that's got out of bounds pricing. I'll usually ask " what am I missing". Sometimes I am missing a detail that drives pricing.

There are also the common " I wanna show this off, but I'll sell it for twice the market price" type of threads. Cool. All my gear is for sale if you offer the right amount of cheddar.
