    Paintball Epiphanies

    Since I started playing paintball nearly thirty years ago, I think I finally came to the realization that I simply dislike double triggers of any kind on mechanical markers (took me long enough, I know). So much so that I’ve been actively converting previously built markers that had them to single trigger frames.

    Is there anyone else here who, after years of trying, came to the sudden realization that some things just aren’t your style? If so, then what?

    I played in the World Cup in '98.
    As I got older, I realized "No matter how good you think you are, there's always some newbie who will take you out"

      For me;

      -Mag fed is not my jam.
      -FSR is cool to F around with at the range, I'll play round ball.
      - Z mags, tippmans, minis, and any other markers with non traditional grip geometry aren't for me.
      - Modern paint QC is AWOL.
      - I'm uncomfortable carrying more than 3 pods.
      - I can't walk a trigger.

      I'm sure I have a litany of other idiosyncrasies, but that stuff leaps to mind.

        I love Spyders, and have collected quite a few, savored them, beat them up, and modified them. This all makes me happy.
        No matter how happy my Spyders make me...

        My Timmy A-Bomb makes me squeal with joy. I live the Spyder life, but deep down I'm a Timmy lover.

            I also dislike double triggers on anything at all.

            For me, no matter what marker I use for the day, I will never get through even half a case of paint...

              I’m not good enough for the barrel I’m using to matter. I’m sure it does make a difference that is noticeable to the best of the best, but I play mostly in the front, and almost exclusively some form of speedball. So just about every interaction is within 10 feet, and the ones that aren’t I’m shooting at someone who doesn’t know I’m there yet.

                Regarding trigger frames, I was always obsessed with putting a slide frame on every pump build, simply because I associated slide frames with single-trigger frames.

                Then Mozak Machine started making his amazing single-trigger hinge frames for pump builds, and I realized that hinge triggers feel much better than slide. It's just that single-trigger hinge frames were rare or just not on my radar until now.

                    Isn't it more like hoppers with a capacity over 25rds?

                  I reached an age where reliability became the single determining factor in whether a gun got used.

                  I play around 10 games per year. Not days, games. I'm not gonna sit one out from a leaky doohickey or sticking whatchamacallit.

                    Last year I took a look at the content of my bag;

                    I realized if someone stole it I would have to spend @$7500 and countless hours to replace the contents.

                    I have reduced it too a sniper, 2 Emeks, and a CS1. The Emeks are there so I can play no matter what. Nothing leaking, nothing stuck, just plain Jane performance.

                  The less I think about the gun, the more it suits my play style.

                    I’m with you there. The classics may have some jank that makes them unique, but there’s something to be said for bulletproof reliability.

                  I dont like the layout of the newer style electros, its too "long and low" and you dont really get to line it up to your eveline anymore.... give me something with the stack height of a cocker or a DM3 and I'll be able to shoot it easier all day

                    I've been playing for a little over 30 years and will be 45 next month. I'm not as good as I once was and when I say that I mean my letter grade is a C. My epiphany came a number of years ago when I was playing and realized I didn't care about performance or competition anymore. I have 100% fun when I'm playing paintball. It's allowed me to experience the game on another level and my enthusiasm has grown because of it.

                      While I still enjoy good competitive play. I totally get what you are saying and I dig it.

                    I've had several over the years of playing.

                    The latest:

                    Since the beginning of time I have always run my normal 77/4500 (or whatever inhad at the time.) and a revvy on my non stock class pumps. Then in August of this year packersrule729 lent me a 15/4500 and a jolo. It was instantly extremely liberating to lose the weight and more importantly the bulk of the larger tank and hopper as well as the bulk lost by using 10 rd tubes versus the 6 140's I would normally use.

                    I had been doing it all wrong for a couple decades. I did what anyone would do. Liberal use of a credit card has permanently fixed the problem.

                      The hardest part is finding people I like. The other hardest part is convincing them to play paintball.
