    Something weird

    Found in the Utah Desert...
From The Guardian; 'This is wild': mysterious monolith found in Utah desert - YouTube
From CBS, Mysterious monolith found in Utah desert - YouTube
From Global News, Mysterious monolith found in Utah desert - YouTube

All the same footage, view one ~ seen them all just with different commentary.
Just seems odd to me that something like this could be hidden for any great length of time, I think it must be man-made and recently installed. It's just too Stanley Kubrick.

    Any thoughts?

Yeah, that's what I thought. But it wasn't something cheap to construct, or easy to transport to such a remote location and remove any immediate traces in the area (by looking at the vids) just to pull a prank. Perhaps we'll get more information about it, if it's looked into. Who knows? Somebody must...Even if they're just laughing at us.
I would say it's obvious it required more than one person to plant that thing and cover their tracks, but history would prove me wrong.

I haven't heard anyone mention the metal it is made of. It seems like that would be an obvious thing to release.
It seems like this is a brilliant joke to play.

I was listening to the DOOM Eternal soundtrack and hoping for our salvation/ruination but...

...it's fucking poorly polished aluminum. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO LET HELL ISSUE FORTH! Our hopes have been dashed. DAMN YOU!

It's probably more of some hipster modern art installation.

This. Yep, most likely explanation by far.
Also, I would like to quote the excellent computer game Discworld Noir - "It must have been art. I was sure of it, because I couldn't understand it."

Someone's remaking/creating a sequel/prequel to space odyssey and this is their viral marketing campaign. That much metal ain't cheap to just stick in the ground (though it's probably sheeting over a frame) and it would take real planning to erect and ensure it stays upright.

I'm getting a 5th Element vibe from that thing. That last big scene in the desert.

I heard that it's hollow and made of stainless steel. I also heard that it's been there for 5 years according to google earth, and no one has bothered securing it. MOuntain bikers have been taking pics with it. So.... If it was thought to be from outer space, I think the whole area would be running around with MIB running security. The lack of interest supports the practical joke theory.

Just came here to say this.

A tall, silver, shining metal monolith discovered in the desert in southeastern Utah – which prompted theories of alien placement and drew determined hikers to its secret location – has now disappeared.
