Literally the week after I watched Moon and gushed about it, I found myself holding the elevator door open for a couple to hop on... that turned out to be Sam Rockwell and Leslie Bibb...who apparently had/have a place in the same building. I've never fan boy'ed harder than that haha. He didn't look like he wanted to engage, so I didn't...but so many of his movies are worthy of this thread - some already mentioned. Seven Psychopaths and Three billboards come to mind.

Siress that's great! Kudos to you for the restraint, I would imagine it's exhausting to be any level of famous when you don't want to be.

+1 The Thing, I even like the more recent remake.

I recommend Sphere too, for some good quality cosmic / alien horror

I’m glad to see Army of Darkness is getting a few shout outs!

“Margin Call” a fictional drama about the 2007/2008 financial crisis is a movie I’ve really enjoyed recently that I think is somewhat below the radar.

”Hot Fuzz” or “Shaun of the Dead” with Simon Pegg are destined to be future classics, or maybe they’re classics already? It’s strange to think “Shaun of the Dead” came out 20 years ago.

If I had to pick an “all time” and “any occasion” favorite I might have to say “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. Good ole-fashioned action adventure, plus who doesn’t like watching Nazis getting melted or zapped by lightning bolts?

Maybe I just saw it at the right time in my life, but hands down, my favourite movie is The Warriors(1979).

The acting isn't great, but the story is fantastic. I honestly put it on in the background pretty regularly.

Beyond that, my Jellyfin library has a few permanent residence in No Country for Old Men, The Big Lebowski, Hell or High Water, most of Tarantino's work, Talladega Nights, Semi-Pro, Walk Hard, and Cedar Rapids.

Definitely missing some, but those are definite favourites.

the Warriors is great. imagine being in their shoes and having to make your way back home like that.
like A Few Good Men. Put yourself in Lt. Kaffee's (Tom Cruise) shoes. The agency is amazing. He passes a line that he can not come back from that will change the lives of 2 kids as well as his own. everything leading up to the courtroom scene is what makes it so explosive.

Kevin Smith has such a unique style for dialogue and I can't decide whether or not I like it.

Extract (2009) kind of feels like the spiritual successor to Office Space (though not as good). I started watching part way through on TV and immediately knew it was a Mike Judge movie.

so many good ones... here's a few that have never failed to entertain after watching them many times throughout the years which is how i set the bar for best.

Kelly's Hero's - likey one of my all time favorites and so underrated. Even my teenage sons put their -phones down and watched it through.
RepoMan - Harry Dean Stanton, Emilio Esteves - C'mon! and and the soundtrack! I still find new little things I never noticed every time I watch it.
Zoolander - I still laugh out loud at parts of that movie
      Caddyshack - nuf said
Rogue One - arguably the best newer starwars movie they've made.
      Thrashin' - still holds up!
Valley Girl - so much 80's goodness
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare - so pleasantly surprised. did not have huge expectations going in. watched it again now that its streaming and loved it even more.
Life Aquatic. gets even better with time
Fury - I've never gripped my seat so hard. intense is an understatement

I'm sure theres more, but I can always name those without thinking about it.

Then there is always the darklist - incredible movies you only need to see once but stick with you forever

      Permanent midnight
      Trainspotting
      Requiem for a dream
      Old Yeller

I hate scary movies to... but I always get sucked into watching them
Alien and Alien 2 - incredible but I don't need to see them again
the ring - that scared the shit out of me for some reason

It’s really hard to choose but if I had to absolutely pick:

      Action movies:

Terminator 2, The Matrix, Fight Club, Alien, The Fifth Element, Predator, (just some fun movies that come to mind.)

      Horror:

The Ring, 28 Day Later, Suspiria (2018 remake)

      Drama / neo noir:

Blue Velvet (directed by David Fincher, 1986)

Never Look Away (directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, 2018)

Three Colours: Blue (directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski, 1993)

I hate Wes Anderson movies. Tarantino and Scorsese are good but I think they’re overrated.

Man, I am getting reminded of more movies from everyones lists that I should have put on mine. As I find interesting stuff on disc in the thrift shops now I'm grabbing them, Blu ray or better if I can, but plain old DVD if it is rare enough, just so much stuff seems to have disappeared/not around to stream.

I should have added the Deadpool movies, and Top Secret, how did I forget Blazing Saddles?

I can't really pick a single favorite, and any list I start just ends up looking like a list of "good movies'.

But there's that one guilty pleasure. An objectively bad movie, but darn it, it just makes me smile.

And that gem is, Brainsmasher... A Love Story.

So bad it's been posted in full on youtube, and no one bothers to claim it to take it down.
Step back in time with us as we review the 1993 cult classic "Brain Smasher: A Love Story" on YouTube. Learn about the quirky characters, hilarious moments, ...

Staring Andrew "Dice" Clay. I personally hate his stand up, but in this masterpiece of trash he actually plays a character I can enjoy, so he has severely underrated acting chops. Plus there's Teri Hatcher in it. You're welcome. And a bunch of martial artists who dress all in black with black masks who are most assuredly NOT ninjas.

Though I must warn you, the soundtrack is irredeemably awful.

If you don’t consider Lonesome Dove an actual movie then my hands down all time favorite movie is Raising Arizona. I’ve seen it soooo many times & it never gets old. If you count Lonesome Dove as a movie then that’s my favorite. Robert Duvall is just the best. He’s been in some pretty terrible movies that are actually watchable just because he’s in them.
