One other factor is that 45* is only the maximum distance when doing high school physics (disregard air resistance/friction/etc). Real world you have to go a bit flatter, for some reason I remember an alleged engineer telling me it was like 38* but it was 20+ years ago and I have no idea if the guy was actually an engineer… but he at least sounded smart to my young self.

I remember hearing the same thing. But its not like my mother had the gun at an exact angle. She just lobbed some paintballs "above those trees"

From shots I've made if you arc it enough I'd say 150 yard maybe. 100 yards much more consistently. But at that point the ball is unlikely to break

I read this as "How far does paintball go?" as in where it progresses as a sport, i thought on it a bit and clicked the thread link only to hear your guys talk about physical distance...

I'm not surprised that AI LLMs can't answer this correctly, forum posts haven't seemed to have gotten much attention from those training the LLMs. And to date, I don't think there are any published scientific papers on paintballs specifically. LLMs are trying to infer based on whatever papers they have been exposed to (i.e. Golf ball flight).

I am disappointed that many folks in this thread (who have been on this forum since well before the purge) hasn't seen or remembered that I have a whole thread that breaks down the ballistics of Paintballs and FSRs.

Here's the quick answer for a .683, 3gram paintball fired at 300FPS, in 70deg, sea level, conditions:
        • Maximum Range: 94 Yards
        • Angle for Max Range: 26 Degrees
        • Terminal Energy: .453FtLb
If you want to know how, why or more, check out the External Ballistics thread linked in my signature.
