Massive tree cut down in my area

Base looks about 6’ across. I walk past this spot on walks all the time and was floored by the tree’s absence. Didn’t have much to compare the size to, so I placed my hat and a trash can in the pics for reference

Dont know why but I am always sad to see big trees go. Guess its because it symbolizes change and Im not a big fan of that the older I get. I wonder how many people have been covered by its canopy. How many people witnessed its growth. I dont know. Trees make me happier than I think they should.

You should go see how old it was, those rings look HUGE.

I hope the owner does something cool with the wood. I'd love to see a big ass chair or something made out of that honker.

I should knock on their door and ask. I’m not sure what kind of tree it was - some sort of cedar/juniper/redwood kind of thing. In this area these trees can grow 2’ a year
There are some smaller chunks on the other side of their driveway, but the bulk of it has already been hauled off. I assume it can be used for lumber since there’s so much of it - this was also incredibly tall.

That appears to be a giant sequoia or a redwood. Both of which should not be planted that close to a house. That would be a hell of a mess under its drip line, would destroy the driveway and foundation of the house with its roots, and could loose a top during a windstorm and go through the house. Not a good street tree or a good yard tree. They are great in the woods.

Makes sense as to why this was removed. There was a ton of sidewalk uplift and it was feet away from the driveway and very close to the house.

I have the remains of the 20+ year old acacia tree in front of my house still, i would LOVE to find somewhere to take it to have it converted into a coffee table or something. but the stump is several hundred pounds and I live in a city far far away from anything resembling "forest"

Would you happen to have a banana handy so I can get a better sense of the scale?

Looking online at pictures of needles and the shape of the trees suggested, this was likely a giant sequoia

A few years back a really big willow at a local park that got struck by lightning and had to be cut down. The base of the truck was about 5’ across. It’s still strange to walk past it and see it not there.
