Triple midair paintball collision in super-slow-mo!

The Slow-Mo guys, a few years back, did a video on two paintballs hitting in midair. This time, they have a faster camera, and tried to get three paintballs to hit in midair. It took some work, and a LOT of tries, but they finally pulled it off!

Some of the slow-mo pics would look pretty cool as backgrounds or wallpapers.

There are so many awesome collisions. I’m glad they didn’t just settle for “all three exploded” and followed through. That last one was super satisfying.

I was hoping for a hit where each one hit the other two simultaneously, but yeah, I'll accept their results.

'Course, I also kind of wish they had better guns than those cheap blowbacks, that they'd squeegeed the pink-ball barrel more often, and possibly tried bore-matched barrels- since I'd imagine the three colors were probably different sizes.

How 'bout three good electros, a set of good spoolers, and an electronic control so you can dial in each one's firing time to the microsecond?

Yep, there were a lot of things they did that made this harder to accomplish. Some spoolies would have made a world of difference.

Okay dudes, hear me out:

Six balls at once.

We make an aluminum frame, a 3D Octahedron- two four-side triangles, six vertexes. Each side about a meter long, and at each point, a mount for an electro spooler. Maybe some cheap Ions? Each one mounted to an X/Y plate, that can be fine-adjusted with setscrews.

Each gun hooked to an electronic controller, so that each ones' individual timing can be controlled. Just firing, that is, not the cycle timing- though somebody good with electronics could likely do it that way anyway... Give each gun a Freak barrel, and fit the insert closely to the ball- different colors, so likely different sizes.

We'd still need a high-speed camera to get things dialed in, but with a much more rigid mount, micrometer-fine adjustments to the aim, and microsecond control of the individual firing, I'd wager we could get a good, satisfying six way hit without too much fiddling.

So, who wants to start donating? Maybe a Kickstarter? What guns should we use? Ethas?

I think ions would be easiest to donate - they’re abundant for super cheap. We’d need someone with a good camera. And a lot of spare time 🤣
