I can't get over the fact that someone hacked a niche website for a niche sport for PROFIT. Like buddy, you really didn't think that one through if a payday was your intent.

I had the same thought, hacking a super niche website for a sport that is itself really niche is not a quick way to make bank.

I'm sure their approach is like a pick-up artist: hit on anything that moves and eventually someone will say yes. We weren't singled out and targeted, we just got caught up in the net.

Yup people used their old usernames and then the memberships are being renewed but we're rebuilding from scratch

The one negative was that the hackers threatened to sell off the names/passwords if Carter did not pay.... and they did.
Shortly after that I started getting security warnings that the email password combo are not secure and have been found on hacker sites.

So, there is that. Not sure if anyone has been burned from that though

OOFF that’s not good. To be honest when I first read that the hack happened I thought it was someone being funny. It took a couple people repeating the same thing to realize that it wasn’t a joke it actually happened. I was under the same thought that why would anyone ransom an obscure website?! I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I just hope my password wasn’t the one I use more regularly.

Thats just it. You have to have accounts for literally everything these days. Companies like to track everything you do. It is not reasonable to have a 100 different passwords for a 100 different accounts, though if you wanted to, there are software packages that will keep track of all of them for you.

I do a comprimise, where I'll use unique passwords for anything that has credit card info, or similar access to monies. I'll use certain emails for certain kinds of accounts, and then other passwords for other kinds of accconts. At least its a little easier to keep track of them. Then all the obscure accounts? For those oddball that I rarely go to, I'm more likely to hit the "forgot apssworld" and reset, and start over. lol
