Russian Dancer assassinated by magfed converted to fire real bullets

Those of us "old types" remember that when paintball was featured on TV in the 80s, it was usually in a negative way. One common trope was someone converting a paintball gun to fire real bullets, for nefarious purposes. My favorite example was from the TV show "Equalizer" in the episode "The Endgame". I always thought it was kinda dumb since paintguns and firearms don't work anyway similar. That said, that episode of Equalizer is surprisingly accurate for the time.

Anyway, in my news feed popped up a story about a Russian Dancer, who was having an affair with some high level oligarch.... and was assassinated. This is Russia, so nothing weird. But buried in the story was that they did not use a firearm, but instead a non-lethal magfed pistol converted to fire bullets.

    Waahhhh?

Apparently, pistols are "banned" in Russia, but non-lethal alternatives are allowed. Like the many pepperball guns on the market, that are basically paintball guns. Also common are Techrim pistols, which look exactly like real firearms, except shoot 50cal rubber balls, fed in a magazine of specially designed simunition. This is what the assassin used, except they modified the rounds. The rubber bullet was removed and replaced with a real bullet, and the charge was doubled up enough to make a lethal round.
A 30-year-old accomplished Russian dancer was gunned down in Moscow in what is being investigated as a “contract killing” after reportedly having an affair with a wealthy politician, according to a report.

Sounds like BS to me. A Zip gun is easily manufactured why go threw the trouble modifying an Air pistol to shoot lethal velocity’s. They actually show the weapon used in any of the articles? You can make a shotgun from the plumbing section in 15min.

I have seen AK 47 receivers made out of shovels with a burn barrel large drill bit, drill, and a cheap hair dryer and some hand files.

If she was smashing a politician in Russia they can get anything they want. Just like the US the rich live by different rules. Hell you can print stuff now in a few Hrs now.

Sounds like all they had to do was swap out the simunition and they basically had a .45acp. Even just 800 fps and a chunk of lead will do bad things to living creatures.

Yeah that’s a firearm not a pepper ball tipx rebrand. It’s a fancy zip gun. It’s not air powered. It had a powder charge and primer and was not paintball related at all. Hell these dirt bag politicians get a hold of this crap and run with it. This is how bad policy’s start.

I thought so too, but then I found out that in Russia, these "trauma pistols" are ubiquitous. Due to the high crime rate, and restrictive gun laws, everyone owns them. They don't use primers, but electrically actuated... so that "real bullets" can not be used, but apparently its trivial to modify them to be fatal..... because Russia.

You can get them with rubber balls, or with paint pellets. I tried to find a place to buy one, but.... can not seem to locate dealers in the usa... well, because you can just get a firearm. lol

I thought it was a Tokarev at first, didn't think to look at the other variants.

I could have sworn Forgotten Weapons did a video on some of these conversions, but I can't find it anywhere.

It must use a powder charge it’s not air powered. So they pull the projectile add more of whatever makes it go bang. It looks like it’s specifically designed to skirt the law. That could be adapted really easy just looking at it.

It would be easier to 3d print a gun, no?

Or two pieces of black pipe and a ground down roofing nail epoxied in an end cap. Don’t even need power to make one of those.
