Merry happy Walzmas! Pimp your SL-68 edition!

After sucking down a Manhattan or two pondering the true meaning of Walzmas and how I could participate after all these years of observing the fun, inspiration struck, and I got to work finishing up a project I started about 6 months ago. It took a helluva lotta work over the long weekend, but I'm extremely proud of the result, and I made an extra kit to give away to some lucky lover of this iconic little pump gun!

How to enter and who can enter: Open to all reds greens and blues, anywhere in the world, but you need to qualify yourself by not only stating you own an SL-68 II but also telling your SL-68 story and what it might mean to you to get it out on the field again. bonus: Posting a pic of your sexy (or neglected) little chunk of cast aluminum from the glory days of Tippmann may help qualify you for an extra entry - it goes to best photo as picked by me and my two paintball loving kids. Be creative! Dig deep into the photo archives!

Winners will be picked at the very least by a drawing, at the very most by some creative but fair way for which inspiration has yet to strike!

Entries must be posted by Dec. 5th. winner announced on the 7th and shipped by the 9th assuming winner gets me their address by then so most anyone should have it by Christmas

    What you get:
A modified by me brand new 14" deadly wind barrel kit for a the SL-68 II that accepts standard freak inserts and and a 3D printed feedneck adapter designed and printed by me, solving two of the biggest shortcomings of the SL and Fixing all the shortcomings of the DW kit. This kit has been fitted and tested on both of my 1st gen SL-68 II's. The adapter is the 13th iteration of my initial design and has held up very well while playing. It is printed in a semi flexible polypropylene - one of my new favorite filaments, once installed your SL it will feel just like the original but without the rollout blues.

A note on the feedneck: it stays in quite well with out having to mod anything on your body, but it was designed to work best by drilling and tapping a for 10-32 screw on the back of the feedneck. the choice is yours!

Edit for spitfire owners i see many spitfires posted below - I think in the hopes you would be entered? It does not look like the DW barrel kit would work with that pump configuration? without one to test i don't really know. if someone has info about this please let me know and I would consider opening it up to you.

For more on what i did and how i did it I will be posting soon in the "MCB reviews it" and the 3D printing sections

Pics of the goods you will get and what your SL will look like once installed:

Here's my custom centerfeed sl68. I've planning on making a stockclass sl68 for which that barrel would be great! The sl-68 is very underrated imo. Great gun with lots of character! Click image for larger version

I love Sl68s, but my hands are too big for them. The rear cap chews up the meat in the webbing of my thumb to the point I can only play a few games with them until it gets tender.

That being said, I have this spitfire 2 I have been poking at to get field ready. and a barrel would do it some justice.

These kits are pretty specific to SL-68's. That said I just don't know anything about spitfires and I see some hopeful entries here. it looks like there is a possibility it could work. can you take a minute to send the OD's of the barrel and the portion that goes into the receiver? as well as a pic the bolt and pump rod and how they go together? I don't want to open it up to spitfires if the kit won't work.

      Wow, Spitfire Owners Group.

      Colour me interested.

I already setup one of my sl68iis with a deadlywind, so if I win I’ll upgrade the spare and walzmas it away to some poor soul without one to keep them warm at night

        @Super Nova

Yeah that’s the rerelease, and they pop up occasionally and are almost always 100% unplayed with

They are very nice guns once you have a decent barrel, even the sights are pretty accurate

This one came to me as a raffle prize on the very last day of play at one of my local fields, Wildcat Paintball. I was sad to see them go, especially after being in operation for so long.

It’s special to me because Wildcat is the very first field I ever played paintball at. I don’t know if there’s any way to prove it, but I’d like to believe that this SL is the very gun that I used as a renter back in the late 90s.

I can’t quite figure out what they were trying to do with my feedneck either, so that 3d printed adapter of yours seems extra interesting!

Entered! and this story tugs at my heartstrings! contender for extra entry I think. I had a similar experience re-uniting with the Tri car I first played with many years later! and yes - the adapter should help deal with that gaping hole - does paint roll out of it? would also be happy to sell you an adapter if you don't win. PM me

      3 more days to enter!

      entrants so far:
      red leader SB
      KMDPB
      F1FX
      jsc 5150
      Appleguy

      questionable
BrickHaus - the barrel might work on a spitfire but i have no idea and the rules did state you must own one I don't want to send a barrel if it wont work
RAZRBAKK you did state you will be giving it to an SL in need - can you elaborate?
Chuck E Ducky were you entering or just telling Shaftski - he better get his act together!

If it's not too late I would like to add mine.

The SL68 was the very first paintball I held in my hand as a kid. It was just for target practice and the velocity has been dropped to around 120fps (was indoor and target where quite close to us). I was hooked. Took me several years to have the budget and convice some friends to go play. The field no longer used SL68 but was still using pro cabine. Couple years ago found this little guy for cheap and brought it home.
I have not used it on the field yet. Would need to do the nail polish or tape trick on the barrel to make it work with modern paint. It would be fun to use it on the field again.

If not already mentioned. This could probably work for a 68 Special. I'm late to the festival and don't own a SL-68. But, I'm fortunately the owner of a BretG HPA converted 68 Special(former OA rental fleet #16, #46 or #76.. 🤷‍♂️)

Anyways, nice giveaway and thanks for spreading the Walzmas cheer!
