It’s my first day playing paintball and my buddy lets me pick a loaner to play with. Two semis and a pump are laid out on the table in the staging area. The pump is a battle-worn relic. Jet black, covered with scratches and any number of nicks. I’m drawn to it immediately, but it’s the name etched by the trigger that really catches my eye, “THE PHANTOM”. I walk out onto the field for my first game with my heart racing and a firm grip on what I hope was the right choice of marker. Game starts and I’m searching for anything that’ll give me an advantage. Can’t say I’m looking forward to taking that first hit.
